Morning Consult Poll: DeSantis Sees Higher Unfavorable Rating than Trump

Former President Donald Trump remains the most favorable candidate in the Republican primary field, despite his ongoing legal troubles, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sees a higher unfavorable rating than the former president, this week’s Morning Consult survey found.

The survey found most, 76 percent, viewing Trump favorably, compared to 22 percent who do not. His favorability is 11 points higher than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who came in second place with 65 percent reporting a favorable view.

Notably, DeSantis now has a higher unfavorable rating than Trump as 23 percent have an unfavorable view of the governor.

Most, 55 percent, also view anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy favorably, while 20 percent still say they have never heard of him.

As is consistent with past surveys, former Vice President Mike Pence has the second-highest unfavorable rating of any candidate listed at 40 percent. However, he is still above water as 48 percent have a favorable view of the former Trump running mate.

Both former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott have a positive favorable rating — 45-18 and 47-12, respectively.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has maintained his status as the most unfavorable GOP candidate as 47 percent have an unfavorable view of him, compared to 28 percent who view him favorably.

That portion of the survey was taken August 10-13, 2023, among 810 potential GOP primary voters. It has a +/- 4 percent margin of error.

The survey came ahead of Trump’s most recent indictment as part of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s investigation into the former president. Given past reactions following Trump’s three other indictments, there is no reason to believe that this fourth indictment will have any negative effect on the former president in the polls, given that his ratings have consistently

Yep, they were fine with it because they figured they got rid of the hated Trump. It set up them being a shrinking minority party. Which is fine with many if not most of the GOPe.

Trump isn’t serious about running for America this time. No one else has a pulse. DeSantis is a hard no for me.

At this point, I'll vote for anyone else over Trump even if that candidate has 1% of beating Biden in the general election.

That's still better than 0% by Trump.

Four points:

1. If Trump has zero change of winning the POTUS race, and that is laughable, there is no-one else that comes even close to what President Trump numbers would be.

2. "I'll vote for anyone else over Trump even if that candidate has 1% of beating Biden in the general election." - Thanks for confirming your NeverTrumper status

3. Your illogical approach is what has brought us candidates like GHB, GWB, McCain, and Romney.

4. There are millions of Trump voters that do not find GOP-E, Globalist, Neo-Con backed candidates acceptable and will not vote for such a candidate. If you really want to win, you are left with one candidate, President Trump.

This is about Republican primary. It only shows what we already knew, Trump is leading the GOP field. Poll everybody who might vote in the general and Trump will have high unfavorable ratings.

No, you are Wrong!

Both the Republicans AND the Independents are breaking hard for President Trump.

Try again.

It's up to you to vote for President Trump in the primaries. He may win them.

But he has no chance of winning in the general election. He won Michigan and Pennsylvania in 2016. Both states are out of play this time. So he's not going to be able to Crack the blue wall.

Just in general, from what we see on Free Republic, there is something wrong with every Republican candidate, so there’s that.

The standard answer on abortion should be “It’s now a state issue and should be decided by each state. The federal government shouldn’t get involved”

That is correct answer but some cannot run from their positions. My point is the dems have put a wedge in the gop on that one issue.

They had better learn how to address it. Most of the madness is in deep blue cities in states that allow abortion. Every time I see those women marching I think “Are you so stupid you don’t know your state allows abortion up to the last minute”.

So funny. 1 percent difference. Lol. You’re not even trying. Look, both won’t be president in 2024. Happy?

Trump 22 percent unfavorable
DeSantis 23 percent unfavorable

We really needed an entire article on that? ONE percent difference? Lol. Too cute.

DeSanctus is a Yale grad, like many in the deep state - and the CIA-recruits these people.

The CIA has also sent many “former” agents into politics.

I’m starting to believe DeSanctus is one more.

Especially with his GITMO history.

Nope. RDS will turn the country deep red like he turned Florida deep red, and he will do it without trumpeting himself before doing it. He will quietly clean out the country and it will be too late for the Dems to stop him, like in Florida. RDS won’t hire a bunch of backstabbing swamp creatures like Trump did.

RDS isn’t much of a self promoter or doesn’t seem to possess any of the narcissistic traits that Trump has. I guess I prefer a humble person that gets results and doesn’t try to brand decent people with petulant nicknames.

I don’t know if RD is the best alternative to DT but I do know I won’t vote for DT again. He lost me at “Desanctimonius”. Both Trump and Biden are far too old imo.
