11,000 runners DQed from Mexico City Marathon for cheating

The Mexico City marathon has ended in farcical scenes after an insane number of competitors were disqualified for the same reason.

The Mexico City Marathon may have to start investing in some improved anti-cheating functionality.

A staggering 11,000 runners out of a 30,000-person field were disqualified after they cut some part of the course during the 42km race on August 27, the Spanish newspaper Marca reported.

The newspaper reported the runners were disqualified after missing checkpoints placed every five kilometres.

Some runners allegedly used vehicles or public transport to cut the course, the report said.

“The Mexico City Sports Institute informs that it will proceed to identify those cases in which participants of the XL Mexico City Marathon Telcel 2023 have demonstrated an unsportsmanlike attitude during the event and will invalidate their registration times,” race organisers said in a statement to Marca.

“This great event not only represents an outstanding celebration for all the inhabitants of the capital, but also an occasion to reaffirm the transcendental values of sport.”

Per Runner’s World, some runners have claimed their trackers were faulty, and they did not cheat but instead passed through the checkpoints without being recorded.

This is not the first time race organizers in Mexico City have had to grapple with widespread cheating.

In 2017, 6,000 runners were disqualified for cheating, while 3,000 were punished in 2018.

The race is one of 38 races this year to hold World Athletics Gold Label Status, which is recognition from the international governing body that indicates it has passed strict criteria for excellence in planning and management.

Hector Garibay Flores, a Bolivian runner, won the marathon in a record 2:08:23, beating the previous mark by more than two minutes.

Celestine Chepchirchir from Kenya won the women’s race in 2:27:17.

Roberto Madrazo, a former Mexican Presidential candidate who was caught cheating at the 2007 Berlin Marathon, said he thought the 11,000 people who were disqualified for cheating were innocent.

“Your program should know that not everyone who signs up for a marathon intends to finish it; many take advantage of the route and logistic support for their training,” Madrazo wrote on X. “I know this because I have participated in 65 marathons.”

Wow I was unaware so many democrats ran marathons. And let me guess: Anyone who protests this will be indicted for interfering in a marathon.

Unless you were competitive, whats the point in cheating in a marathon? So you can brag to your friends that you ran it in 3:30 instead of 4:00? Makes no sense at all. I think they had some faulty equipment.

Yup—they should cross the border and start “counting” votes in Democratic precincts.

Nobody would notice.

Great event? They're running...This is not big deal except for the leftist soy boys.

And they expected people in Mexico to obey the rules?

Bewahahahahah

Pure jackassery gibberish...

Would anyone expect anything different from Mexicans? Already they lie, cheat, and steal their way across the border into the US. Perfect candidates for today’s morals and ethics.

This is cheating just to cheat. It’s raging narcissism. It’s pretty pathetic to get a kick out of it.

As a national culture, they have no respect for our laws, our rules or our borders. Why should it come as any surprise that they have no respect for their laws, rules, culture or borders

All cultures are not equal. Europeans didn’t cut that hearts out of hundreds of thousands of people to sacrifice them to Gods. Everything you see, taste, smell, every piece of technology, medicine, space, computer,
Agriculture and home development can be directly traced

From another news.com.au article on marathons and racing:

Glenique Frank interviewed after the race. Photo: BBC.

A two-time Olympian (Mara Yamauchi) has ripped rules that allowed a transgender runner to beat nearly 14,000 women in the female category of the London Marathon.

Mara Yamauchi — who finished sixth in the marathon at the 2008 Beijing Olympics — lashed out after trans racer Glenique Frank, 54, gushed to the BBC about using “girl power” to run the UK race on Sunday.

“Males in the [female] category is UNFAIR for females,” Yamauchi tweeted alongside a clip of the mid-race interview by the sports bra-wearing runner who also gushed about soon becoming “a gran.”

“Nearly 14,000 actual females suffered a worse finish position [because] of” Frank, wrote Yamauchi — who said that even when she was “ranked second in the world” as a woman, “at least 1300 men ran faster than me.”

Is it a performance enhancer to have someone dress as a US border patrolman and chase them through the race?
