EV Battery Factory Will Require So Much Energy It Needs A Coal Plant To Power It
Cowboy State Daily ^ | 9/22/23 | Kevin Killough

A $4 billion Panasonic electric vehicle battery factory in De Soto, Kansas, will help satisfy the Biden administration’s efforts to get everyone into an EV.

It also will help extend the life of a coal-fired power plant.

Resource Adequacy

Panasonic broke ground on the facility last year. The Japanese company was slated to receive $6.8 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act, which has been pouring billions into electric vehicles and battery factories as part of its effort to transition America away from fossil fuels.

The Kansas City Star reports that the factory will require between 200 and 250 megawatts of electricity to operate. That’s roughly the amount of power needed for a small city.

In testimony to the Kansas City Corporation Commission, which is the state’s equivalent of the Wyoming Public Service Commission, a representative of Evergy, the utility serving the factory, said that the 4 million-square-foot Panasonic facility creates “near term challenges from a resource adequacy perspective,” according to the newspaper.

As a result, the utility will continue to burn coal at a power plant near Lawrence, Kansas, and it will delay plants to transition units at the plant to natural gas.

Can’t they just power it with solar and wind power and extra batteries? LOL.

Just cover Kansas with windmills. The factory can only operate when the wind is blowing.

It's so ironic that it's pure in form.

Kinda sounds like “ saving” the Ukie nation will require the destruction of the American nation ( it’s already happening).

A factory controlled indirectly by China.

They control the lithium ion battery through production (pricing), refining (dirty), and mining of the minerals.

In the name of “green energy” we are turning over our energy security to China.

I wrote this yesterday on another thread but the essential minerals for LIB’s (lithium ion batteries) are far more expensive today than they were 5 years ago and as demand increases 500% so will pricing.

But wait, there is more......

In order to beef up our electrical grid enough for EV’s for everyone we will rely on China for critical electrical infrastructure parts such as transformers, switches, transmission fuses, etc.

Almost all solar panels are made in Western China using coal power and Uyghers in prison camps with no industrial hygiene controls exposing them to the toxic metal and silica dusts. The rare earth metals needed for solar panels, chips, and other electronics are controlled by them too.

Many of the components for wind turbines are sourced from China as well and they undercut the market so that taxpayers must subsidize our wind manufacturing.

This is all unnecessary and very expensive (and dirty). We are costing ourselves jobs and tax revenues and sending more and more money to China. We have unattainable and unaffordable goals in this space and the further down this road we go the more China controls our energy (and our future).

The “green” energy space is dominated by reds. We have closet communists here in the West and the CCP right behind them.

And people continue to fall for all of this bullsh*t.

So many will yell from the rooftops about government coercion and everything under the sun about how crappy government is. They’ll call for the government to get their hands off of everything.

But the next sentence will be something like....I just read an article about Musk/someone else developing the next generation battery/super duper/flux capacitor/mini nuke plant/blah blah blah, and if the technology works you’ll be able to drive your EV to the moon and back on 2-AA batteries. Although I’m against EV subsidies, Biden and his crew shoving this down our throats, I’m very interested in the talk of this new technology and will definitely consider purchasing an EV in the future.

Electric cars have been around since the late 1800s.....History of the electric vehicle .... Crude electric carriages were first invented in the late 1820s and 1830s. Practical, commercially available electric vehicles appeared during the 1890s. An electric vehicle held the vehicular land speed record until around 1900.

Not one person ever talking about how so much of the funding is coming from the government and the taxpayers are FORCED to pay the bills(Rivian, for one). But wait, qaz123...Musk paid back all of his loans. And then pocketed millions and millions with all the tax breaks that he needed to sell his first Tesla’s. The $100k versions that went to all the rich guys. Folks who didn’t need nor deserve a tax break to buy their toy, novelty, Sunday driver.

I’m really wondering when the insurance companies that operate in Florida and along the coasts either stop insuring EVs or make it prohibitively expensive to own one, given what salt water does to EVERYTHING. A few more hurricanes and flooding, all those EVs are worthless once the saltwater gets in there. Done.

Very true.

The latest Ford commercial has one of their F150s powering a construction site and a home.

Just build a huge parking lot and daisy chain them all together.

The Mysterious Case of the Missing 250-Ton Chinese Power Transformer

https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7gaqb/the-mysterious-case-of-the-missing-250-ton-chinese-power-transformer

In May, the Trump administration seized a 250-ton, $3 million Chinese high-voltage transformer that was on its way to Colorado. It was taken to Sandia National Labs in New Mexico for reasons unknown. What happened to it still remains a mystery.

On May 1, the Trump Administration issued a surprise Executive Order (EO), “Securing the United States Bulk Power System.” The directive aims to keep critical equipment supplied by foreign adversaries out of the nation’s power grid due to supposed supply chain security threats. It requires the Secretary of Energy to work with other agencies in identifying the specific equipment from adversarial suppliers, particularly Chinese suppliers, that the government should bar from the bulk-power system.

And then......

And no matter how much evidence you give to the Left...Orange Man Bad....Pres Trump was controlled by the Chinese/Russians....Pres Trump was a foreign asset

Excellent. How about the cats chasing hamsters?
Might be able to power the entire state.

They can also test drive the new vehicles.
