Tom Emmer drops out of speaker’s race, hours after being nominated

GOP Rep. Tom Emmer has dropped out of speaker race – a move that comes just hours after he won his party’s nomination, the latest sign that Republicans are no closer to electing a new speaker.

Earlier in the day, Emmer’s bid to be speaker appeared on the verge of collapse amid opposition from the right flank of his conference and fresh attacks waged by former President Donald Trump – just hours after the Minnesota Republican was picked as the party’s nominee.

Several Republicans who oppose Emmer say they will not move off their opposition and are calling for a new candidate. Emmer can only afford to lose four Republicans, and 26 voted against him behind closed doors.

Emmer voted to certify the 2020 election, voted to keep the government open for 47 days, voted for the bipartisan law to avoid a debt default and voted to codify same-sex marriage – all issues that members of the hard-right have cited as issues.

Doing nothing is prefereable to what was happening before.

Unfortunately, we need to do real things to save the Republic.

None of the RINOs will do what needs to be done, probably the most important and effectual of which would be to put a real budget process back in place.

We have not had one since Obama was voted in. This gives the bureaucracy the ability to ignore Congress.

What part of Trump's first administration was not conservative?

Was it:

1. Low inflation?
2. Low unemployment, especially for blue collar work?
3. Rising real wages?
4. Standing up to China and tariffs?
5. Building a wall and having the most secure border since the 1960s?
6. Cheap gas, super high oil production?
7. Selecting 3 SCOTUS judges that fundamentally changed the court?

That is an incomplete list but please tell us what is not conservative about any of those things?

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?

Stop ASSuming so much. Trump’s our leading candidate... but he’s still weak on a number of Constitutional issues.

Doesn’t matter how good he looks by “comparison”. A turd with fewer chunks of corn in it is still a turd. A lesser evil is still an increase in evil. Etc...

EVERY single one of our Candidates should be measured against their support of our Constitutionally LIMITED Republic. Especially those who insist on a certain amount of ego stroking and hero worship.
