Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday announced that he is sending weapons, ammunition and drones to Israel, just a few days before the GOP presidential hopeful is set to speak at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting, which includes major donors.
The Republican candidate also announced two cargo planes with 85 pallets of donated supplies, as well as sanctions on Iran and "companies boycotting Israel," such as financial services firm Morningstar.
DeSantis is scheduled to speak at the RJC gathering in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The moves from the Florida governor come after he was previously accused by a legislative aide of having a weak response to antisemitism in the state, to which he responded by pointing to the numbers of people rescued from Israel and brought to Florida.
“What other governor has rescued people from Israel?” DeSantis asked. “I marshaled resources."
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Thursday he was not aware of any coordination between the federal government and Florida on this matter.

Posturing or not, he at least walks the walk.
If this story is true, I applaud DeSantis’ action. Yet is he setting himself for all kinds of legal problems?
How much of our tax dollars of the Floridians are going there?
Ron the Panderer.
Not to worry. According to Ronnie, he's the smartest lawyer on the planet. He advised Navy SEALS on the Rules of Engagement, so they wouldn't offend our enemies on the battlefield.
Should governors be in the business of sending weapons to foreign countries?
Will ATF come knocking on his door?
What weapons??
My question exactly. What do you suppose would be the reaction among Freepers if, say, Gov. Pritzker or Gov. Newsom were to send weapons and ammo to the Palestinians?
Maybe if they are way behind and looking for votes.
I agree with his sentiments, but I have to wonder if this runs afoul of some gun trafficking laws.
“I agree with his sentiments, but I have to wonder if this runs afoul of some gun trafficking laws. “
But if there is a different governor in a different state who has different sentiments to DeSantis and he decides to send arms to his favored foreign country ...
What an ass. Stay in your lane and don’t use Floridians as your stepping stone, Ted. You have no situational awarness.
I don't. A state should not engaging in foreign policy. It's certainly not where Floridians tax money should be going.
Yet is he setting himself for all kinds of legal problems?
Could be. The Constitution forbids states from making their own foreign policy decisions. (Not that this is always enforced.)
I would be angry that they were sending weapons to our enemies instead of to our allies.
Desantis is my man !!!
I adore him. Haley also but Ron is the man of the future of this party and country
He tough , he got all the toughness of trump but is much more articulate
Even my liberal friend is impressed with desantis as a speaker ! Impressed by his education!!
Should governors be in the business of sending weapons to foreign countries?
Quick answer without really thinking to deeply about it...
No
“Yet is he setting himself for all kinds of legal problems?”
I’m only familiar with what companies have to do to sell arms abroad. Each sale must have federal approval. I can’t believe a governor can send arms and ammo or any military supplies even to an ally without federal approval. See link for the relevant laws. Because the government is run by Democrats I can see where this could be a huge political problem for DeSantis if he doesn’t cross every t and dot every i.
“Posturing or not, he at least walks the walk.”
Exactly.
I swear you can’t please some on our side either. They want a fighter who will get things done, but when they get things done, they’re accused of being political. Well duh! Isn’t he supposed to be representing those who elected him by done things that are popular amongst them?
That’s how he got re-elected with almost 70%.
