Societal order is beginning to collapse in the besieged Gaza Strip after thousands of desperate people raided UN warehouses in search of food, amid continuing bombardment by Israeli airstrikes and a widening ground offensive as the war enters its fourth week.
Thomas White, the head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), said on Sunday that wheat, flour and hygiene supplies had been taken the day before from several UN-run centres across the blockaded 41km by 12km strip, home to more than 2 million trapped people.
“This is a worrying sign that civil order is starting to break down after three weeks of war and a tight siege,” White said. “The needs of the communities are immense, if only for basic survival, while the aid we receive is meagre and inconsistent.”
Basic services in Gaza have crumbled after three weeks of a near-total blockade imposed by Israel, leaving people exposed to serious outbreaks of disease as streets overflow with sewage, and food, water and medicine run out. The UN considers the siege a war crime. Israel has also sharply escalated an already devastating aerial campaign on the coastal exclave on Friday night that has killed more than 8,000 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
Under the cover of strikes and artillery, Israeli ground troops have begun moving into the north of the strip in Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun in what the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, described as the “second stage” of the war triggered by Hamas. The Palestinian militant group killed 1,400 people across southern Israel and kidnapped 230 hostages during its unprecedented rampage on 7 October.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that over the past 24 hours they had hit 450 targets belonging to Hamas, which gained control of Gaza in 2007 including command

“I think ner do wells s maybe more important”
The whole lot of them are incapable of building anything. They have been taught from birth to die for a lie and to be excited about doing it.
so the UN runs the food distribution system in Gaza??
I think my meter needs new batteries…it’s not moving off zero.
When the hungry Gazans start raiding Hamas warehouses, maybe we’ll have something.
That obidung wants them here in the US. FJB
As to women ... they believe the same things and love see their kids martyred.
Weren’t many prevented from leaving by Hamassi’s?
It IS time to clear Gaza out...and build a better “resort”
They cannot get out. No one will take them as refugees.
Can you imagine, I mean think about that for one moment. Palistians so unwanted by the rest of the world that no one will take them in.
At what point does a society realize their own delusion?
With everything they were given prior to the conflict none of it was used for the civilians.
One brave Egyptian Journalist has pointed out that the Billion Dollar Hamas underground city and tunnel network built over the last 16 years….was all for militants and weapons storage and smuggling.
There are NO bomb shelters for Palestinian civilians.
Simply do not care at all and the fact that no Arab countries will accept these people is a tell. They’re a lost cause and a drain on the world economy.
The only reason Gaza even exists is to create a trip-wire to unite the Muslim world in a war-to-the-end with Israel. The “civilians” (such as they are) are there to be killed and create the major war to end Israel that they so desperately want.
” desperate people raided UN warehouses”
Hamas emptied them weeks ago.
>> These people live on prime real estate on the Mediterranean Sea. They could have turned the Gaza Strip into a paradise.
Excellent point — and true of quite a few third world hellholes.
Sort of like a cross between MS-13 and the Ace Double Treys on steroids, right?
I love it when a plan comes together producing results! Now release the hostages! And fix the near-total blockade to a total blockade, keeping the UN and media out of Gaza!
Go to Egypt?
Why they will shoot you!
Let’s stay here and get bombed!!
War is terrible. Choose wisely.
Yes. Theyrevrebelling against Hamas.
