Manchin: ‘Absolutely’ Would Consider a Presidential Run
The Hill ^ | 11/15/2023 | Pam Key

Posted on 11/15/2023 12:05:58 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that he would consider a 2024 presidential run during an interview from NBC’s “Meet the Press” that will air Sunday.

Anchor Kristen Welker said, “Let’s talk about your future, because obviously you are facing a big decision. Can you take us inside your thinking right now? Are you seriously contemplating a run for the White House?” Manchin said, “Here’s is what i’m seriously contemplating. I’ve said this clearly, people say, are you going to run? I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure, and immobilize the common sense middle that could be a center left, center right. It could be a person involved in the Grand Old Party forever, but they’ve basically said my Democrat friends over here, the old Blue Dog Democrats, that the middle is gone. There’s not many centrists left. If I can reinvigorate that, I will do everything that I possibly can. I’m scared to death that Donald Trump will become president again. I think we will lose democracy as we know it.”

I had respect for you while standing on some principal, butt you caved. Betting that more of a moderate, walking a fence has a chance. All I can say is walking a slippery fence is a good way to rack your nuts.

Trump is a moderate though . Protecting the border and stopping illegal aliens isn’t a far right view opinion. Even democrats used to run on that (they didn’t mean it , but they did run on it)

He’s nobody’s prom queen. Dems don’t like him, Republicans don’t either.
And he hasn’t the telegenetics, never mind telekinesis.

He will run IF some group of Billionaires finances it for him. But don't expect him to lift a finger, which is why he won't get the $$$, people don't like to finance those who want to be anointed and not earn it.

You’re going to have the GOP nominee, Biden, Kennedy, Manchin, Stein, West, a Libertarian, someone from the Constitution Party, America’s Party, and who knows who else.

I say let them all run.

No, Manchin doesn’t have those big ears, that accent, or that easily imitatable voice.

Trump is a moderate

True. Some people can't get it through their heads.

Yup, and it's there for anyone with a memory.

(Reliable Democrat, no matter what he pretends) Manchin is the new Ross Perot.

The idea is to take GOP voters disaffected from Mister Trump, and ensure a Dem win, I would wager.

Many fine folks hereabouts somehow think that the Dem voters would go for Manchin as well. Talk to them. They fear Trump more than anything, they'll vote Dem. And obediently so.

“we will lose democracy as we know it.”
This has become the official buzz phrase of the left. I hear it 5 times a day, lately.
Whatever it is that is “as we know it”, is a long ways from the Constitutional Republic, or Representative Republic we once were, and should be.
I think they really mean democracy, and that’s a bad idea.

I agree, Manchin would take Dems and GOP in very tiny percentages. Quite a few White Dem voters would vote Manchin as they won't vote for Trump but don't ant to vote for the senile old man. If he peels off some of the under 30 vote, that would come 75% from Dems.

If he wants to run he better make up his mind, it’s already too late to file in Arkansas and Alabama. More deadlines coming up soon.
