Where the flu, RSV, and COVID are on the rise ahead of Thanksgiving

(NEXSTAR) — As Americans prepare to gather for the holidays, many say they fear becoming sick in the coming months. Based on the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those concerns may be genuine.

While the CDC doesn’t track COVID-19 testing as closely as it did during the pandemic, it does still track other COVID-related data.

That includes hospital admissions for COVID, jumped by almost 9% in the most recent week of data, through Nov. 11. The percentage of people visiting the emergency room and testing positive for COVID is up by 7%, and the number of deaths attributed to COVID is up 9%.

It is amazing what covid did to people. Years ago people would go to work sick, have meds on their desk, and I recall humidifiers on their desk also. Nobody blinked a eye. Now people are terrified and shamed if they get sick these days.

Unless you are over 55 if you get Covid-19 then you will recover just fine. Influenza and covid can be serious, but I'm not so sure about RSV. The RSV bug has been around for a long, long time and I suspect that most adults have already survived multiple exposures and may have already had light or silent cases and thus have antibodies already.

I get an annual flu shot and nowadays, an annual protein-based (meaning NOT mRNA) covid vax. I get the one from NovaVax, and did not experience any side effects at all.
