Yale School of Public Health dean Dr. Megan Ranney (pictured) gave congressional testimony Tuesday in which she responded to questions about Chicago gun violence by pointing to studies suggesting that repairing urban buildings could reduce shootings.
Ranney made the remark during an exchange with Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), who had asked her about the raging gun violence in Chicago.
Kennedy said, “Why do you think Chicago has become America’s largest outdoor shooting range?”
Ranney responded by saying, “Mississippi, Louisiana, and Missouri actually have higher firearm death rates.”

Well the mayor already told us that the shootings are due of MAGA and White Supremacists.
Those will need to be dealt with first.
Following an old Dim policy, Chicago could have criminals plant trees and flowers and….cotton.

But Ranney did point to studies which she said suggested reclaiming vacant lots could reduce shootings: “There’ve actually been studies showing when you green vacant lots and repair abandoned buildings in urban neighborhoods you see decreases in gunshots and violence, as well as in stress and depression in the neighborhoods around them.”

These over-educated idiots apply middle or upper-class mind-sets to a culture that they do not understand and have never experienced. Does anyone (other than a professor) think the “greening” of a vacant lot would do anything other than attract trash, the homeless, or a place to dump a body?
How many times have a group of do-gooders came into run-down cities cleaned a vacant lot, planted flowers and trees, and installed a park bench? What happens within a week of the photo-op celebrating their accomplishments? The lot is full of trash, the flowers are trampled, and the park bench is destroyed or stolen. Idiots! We are surrounded by idiots!

As for refurbishing abandoned building, as what? Theft is running legit businesses out of many crime-infested areas.

Yeah....’green’ up an openly visible lot with a bunch of trees and bushes. Smart. Leftists think all they have to do is come up with some lameass reason for anything they want to use public money for and MSM and other leftists will chime in and say “yeah! that’s a GREAT idea.”
She is actually supporting the broken windows theory, and decking it with greenery.
There was a white do-gooder attempt to plant trees in a Detroit neighborhood. It was poorly received, the trees were destroyed. Some homeowners said they didn't want the responsibilities of raking and pruning, some said the problem was that they were never consulted.
I've seen poor white, drug-infested neighborhoods with no trees, I didn't ask why no trees as it would have been disrespectful on short acquaintance.
In Philadelphia you can drive across a bridge over a small stream. Go from black, rundown, no trees, plenty of loafers hanging about, to mixed, maintained, trees, fewer people but all purposeful. Same German stone houses each side.
My guess, gangs and the people who have to live among them want to see who is on the street, look out window and decide go or no go. The gangs want to signal territory, rundown and treeless is part of that.
Then there is the southern black tradition of the swept yard, every morning swept clean and tidy to bare dirt. An African tradition carried over, no hiding place for snakes, no twigs that look like snakes.
These people live so separated from the real lives of regular people that many of them don’t understand life at all.
