In return, Christie convinced Trump to appoint him to the FBI, probably the worst personnel appointment Trump made. If I recall hearing it correctly DOJ has a policy of not going after candidates in the months preceding an election. In this case, if true, that policy was very conveniently exploited by former spooks who wrote their idiotic letter claiming it “had all the hallmarks of Russian disinfo” even though the FBI knew it wasn’t - and had the laptop well before this supposed “political blackout period”.
