Ukrainian Missile Strike Hits Russian Warship in Occupied Crimea

A Ukrainian missile strike hit a Russian warship moored in Crimea early on Tuesday, in what appeared to be one of the most significant attacks against Moscow’s prized Black Sea Fleet in months amid Kyiv’s intensified campaign to target the Russian-occupied peninsula.

The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that it had destroyed the Novocherkassk, a large landing ship, in the southeastern Crimean port of Feodosia overnight. Russia’s Defense Ministry told the Tass state news agency that the ship had been damaged in an attack using “aircraft-guided missiles,” but did not say whether the vessel had been permanently disabled.

Videos of the attack that appeared to be taken by residents and were released by the Ukrainian Air Force showed a huge explosion that produced a large fireball, followed by a giant cloud of smoke and fire billowing into the night sky.

“...ramp up US oil production ...”

Excellent plan. One problem is that Democrats have, as a central tenant to their domestic policy, eliminating oil. I believe this is part of the make-American’s-poor-and-dependent plan. Solving a problem costing non-voting lives is not anywhere on their agenda. Republicans tried to link border security and control to Ukrainian aid. That’s a no go because it clashes with the make-American’s-poor-and-dependent plan.

Cross your fingers for the 5th Fleet.

Honestly, I think Biden is angling to have one or more of our aircraft carriers sunk. He's putting them all in missile range of the Houthis. Meanwhile, there will no deployment of the LCS vessels out of concern that they will be destroyed by Houthi missiles or drones. It's just Pearl Harbor on a grander scale.

—”fastest way to stop this would be taking out the overland pipelines Russia uses to transport oil it sells to China and India”

Not going to happen under current conditions.

The invisible hand is helping Ukraine.

The Chinese and Indians keep their pencils sharp with a close eye on their bottom line. And they are not paying anything close to market rates.
The Russians will sell cheap because slowing the flow of an oil well can bring on a multitude of troubles.

Notice that China is not helping with the new improved oil lines from Russia to China. They prefer to burn cheaper local coal than oil which can be easily disrupted.
The Chinese and Indians will always be your friends to make a sale. That said China has a long list of properties that Russia appropriated and a few other grievances. They have a plan and can wait to avoid kinetic action and bad feelings.

Much of the oil sold to China and India is resold on the world market, supplying current demand and depressing prices.
And short-circuiting Russian prices.

The invisible hand at work.

Wait. You want the USA to attack Russia’s pipelines to China? Directly bomb Russia? And any other country the pipeline crosses?

EAT THIS, TIMBER...Ukraine just suffered its biggest lost yesterday since losing Bakhmut:

Russian Forces Take Heavily Fortified Town of Maryinka in Biggest Triumph Since Bakhmut

The year is ending on an upbeat note for the Russian Federation troops that have just conquered the heavily fortified town of Maryinka, in the outskirts of Donetsk city.

This is a major development, the biggest since Moscow troops regained the initiative, and also the greatest achievement since they gained control of Avdiivka (Bakhmut) in May.

By taking Maryinka, the Russians have significantly pushed back the Ukrainian artillery. For years, Kiev used Maryinka has a key launching pad for drone and artillery strikes against civilians in Donetsk.

“It was a British attack. British missiles, most likely with US targeting and Brit technicians. Dangerous stuff.”

What’s Ruzzia going to do about it? Declare war on NATO?

Don’t know. But I have seen too many times in life that a bully says exactly that... “what you gonna do about it?” as they keep bouncing basketball off their head or something.
Sometimes people snap.

It’s a long understood truism that enough humiliation, delivered in the arrogance that they wouldn’t dare do anything about it, often goes wrong.

Wives shoot that abusive husband as he eats breakfast. Mild mannered Bernhard Goetz pulls his 38 snub. Japan destroys Pearl Harbor.

You might look at Hermann Kahn’s escalation ladder... so far, nobody is backing down. but you’re probably right. One day the Brits will hit them really hard, maybe sink 4 or 5 ships in a day, and then the Russians will maybe decide they better back down and and not escalate anymore.... because the Brits mean business...... maybe.

Maybe.

A little bit yes. And to me, this has all the elements of a coming ,massive miscalculation or unintended escalation happening.
As you said, people chasing that dopamine hit. By definition, they are not thinking. And they are caught flat footed when the things they believed are not true.

The Germans never dreamed the Warsaw Ghetto would decide to shoot soldiers one afternoon. After all, they could not possible prevail.

The scary part is that a rapid final escalation can happen accidentally, or at the hands of one extremist. Gavrilo Princip shoots the Archduke and 40 million were dead in a few years.

It can happen again.

No.
I was speculating out loud on what the Ukes might be capable of doing, to improve their bargaining position for the inevitable negotiating and settling of this conflict.

“Wives shoot that abusive husband...”

Putin is the bully attacking those weaker than he is. Ruzzia is the abuser. And as per your scenario someone needs to put an end to them.

I think the article is crafted to make it look like the Russians said the ship was important, based on the way the first introductory sentence says it was (Kyiv) and then the first statement from the Russians offered immediately below the line is to imply verification. The Russians said a ship was hit, the Kyiv money grifters said an important ship was hit.

Well, the landing ship, Novocherkassk, had been out of action and in need of spare parts for over a year before it was destroyed so, way to go Ukrainians! It's HARD to hit a ship that lacks parts needed to make it move or do anything useful! MAJOR strategic win! Biggest Ukrainian 'win' so far! Amazing display of warfare prowess. Almost as hard as hitting a dock!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_landing_ship_Novocherkassk

On 24 August 2022 it was reported Novocherkassk and sister ship Caesar Kunikov were out of action due to lack of spare parts to repair the ships. The lack of spare parts was attributed to the sanctions imposed on Russia.[9]

On 26 December 2023, the ship was reportedly destroyed by the Ukrainian Air Force.[10][11]

Exactly why they told the West over and over and over and over again! NO NATO in Ukraine under any circumstances. It is perceived as an existential threat. That is the only reason they went in. Everything they said prior to invading was the crossing of that line would not be tolerated. It was the Cuban Missile Crisis all over again for them. Had the DC warmongering imbeciles left Ukraine alone and unaligned, none of this would have occurred. Now Ukraine is destroyed because Russia’s hand was forced. Bottom line, No NATO in Ukraine. Ever.
