Putin's 2008 Comments On Crimea, Before A Sharp Change Of Tack (VIDEO)

In an interview with Germany's ARD television in 2008, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow recognizes all of Ukraine's borders, and that there is no issue of ethnic conflict in Crimea. His comments, delivered shortly after Russia's military intervention in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia, stand in stark contrast with Moscow's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its support of armed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Well, well, well...

This VIDEO is a smoking gun. It completely obliterates (!) Putin's narrative he has today.

A simpleton’s mind is static, everyone else dynamic.

When things change, you may change your mind.

Well, the events that occurred in 2014 changed everything. Nothing mysterious, nor is there any contradiction present either. Circumstances had changed due to actions carried out by Ukraine.

Crimea is overwhelmingly ethnically Russian, never wanted to be part of Ukraine after the fall of Soviet Union and was under no obligation to after an illegal coup min 2014 that overthrew a President it overwhelmingly voted for was driven out of office.

The Russians have had a naval base at Crimea since 1783. If think they were going to lose access to that base, you're nuts.

Keep encouraging this war and the Russians will continue to dismantle Ukraine until it, thankfully, no longer exists. At best, it will end up a poor, land-locked country with the economic prospects of Moldova.

Death to Ukraine! Death to the liberal world order! Death to NATO!

The usual trolls can’t accept that their Supreme Leader lied. Personal insults to follow since they can’t argue the facts.

I am not a Russian. I am an American. Why should we care what Russia said in 2008 when we all know that things changed since then?

I never dreamed the US would allow a marxist puppet fraud to run the US.

That I do care about. Not what Putin said in 2008 about that craphole Ukraine.

Overthrown elections have consequences. Disenfranchised voters predictably revolt against Revolutionary regimes

“Death to Ukraine! Death to the liberal world order! Death to NATO!”

NATO includes America so you just wished death on America. This used to be followed by a zot.

You got it backwards.

The “coup d’etat” was when Ukrainians suddenly understood that their President Viktor Yanukovych was actually an impostor working directly for Russia!

Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych even asked the Kremlin to send Russian troops into Ukraine in order to eradicate the Ukrainian people’s demonstration against Viktor Yanukovych’s pro-Russian Government! Talk about the DEEP STATE = Viktor Yanukovych!

Ukrainians want their own president to be working for UKRAINE, and NOT for Russia. Thats logical right?

Ukraine’s ex-president Viktor Yanukovych found guilty of treason. /// Exiled former leader sentenced to 13 years’ jail over 2014 protests and Russian invasion.

If true, Simple solution! You vote out bad politicians. Overthrowing the constitution and disenfranchising voters nullifies the social contract that holds a country together. Eastern and Southern Ukraine will never rejoin Kiev. The trust has been broken.

Well, the events that occurred in 2014 changed everything.

Yep.

In 2008, Ukraine was governed by President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. They were both pro-Western but their governorship was marred by a great deal of political infighting and gridlock. Putin had nothing to worry about.

As I said in your other article Ukraine's loss of Crimea was a consequence of that Euromaidan coup in 2014. It's done, Crimea will never be Ukrainian territory again.

How many more threads you going to post on the same subject?

Nope. At that time there were friendly relations and the Uke government wasn’t nazi.
After nazis took over, they started ethnic cleansing, decided to evict the Russian navy from the Sevastopol navy base it has had since before Ohio was part of America, and turn it into a NATO Navy base.
That made the deal change. And now it is gone... forever. And confirmed in a landslide vote.

We need to leave both NATO and the UN. Both are globalist organizations detrimental to the citizens of this country.

Why don’t you just leave the US? So much simpler.

We still believe in democracy here, and decisions are to be made by our elected officials. So far we are still in both the UN and NATO.

Russia is not in NATO, nor is Afghanistan. You could go there, since you seem to prefer authoritarian regimes.

Lets start with the obvious...its a one minute clip of what was obviously a much longer conversation. The complete context is missing, although the interviewer mentions concerns the French have that Crimea is the ‘next’ target after Russia intervened in Georgia.

The source of the short clip is RFERL, a well established US government propaganda operation, so the precise translation of Putin’s words from Russian is suspect.

However, what Putin seems to be saying is that the ethnic conflict which prompted Russia to act in the case of Georgia is missing in the case of Crimea, which in 2008 when the interview was given was true.

He also objects to the use of the term ‘next conflict’ which Putin claims imparts a negative connotation toward Russia’s motives.

Why not provide a link to the entire interview and let the information consumer decide what was meant instead of cherry-picking a single minute?

I’m willing to bet that the full interview would reveal a much more complete picture.

"We don’t care." Russian "imperialists" don't care.

With the invasion and annexation of Crimea, Chechnya, Georgia and Ukraine Russian "imperialists" are revealed to be fascists.
