Victor Davis Hanson: Lawfare Against Trump Is Running Out of Gas
American Greatness ^ | 15 Jan, 2024 | Victor Davis Hanson

Prosecutors are discovering that the more they seek to rush to judgment before the election and gag Trump from speaking publicly about these proceedings, the more he rises in the polls.

We should dispense with the tired narrative that four conscientious state and federal prosecutors—independently and without contact with the Biden White House or the radical Democrats in Congress—all came to the same disinterested conclusions that Donald Trump should be indicted for various crimes and put on trial during the campaign season of 2024.

The prosecutors began accelerating their indictments only once Trump started to lead incumbent Joe Biden by sizable margins in head-to-head polls. Moreover, had Trump not run for the presidency, or had he been of the same party as most of the four prosecutors, he would have never been indicted by any of them.

Yet now they are in a doom loop of discovering that the more they seek to rush to judgment before the election and gag Trump from speaking publicly about these star-chamber proceedings, the more he rises in the polls.

In truth, each succeeding cycle of corrupt leftwing lawfare that ends in failure—the Russian collusion hoax, the weaponized first impeachment, trying ex-president Trump in the Senate as a private citizen, the laptop disinformation set-up, the Alfa bank ping caper, the pathetic attempt to erase Trump from state ballots, and the unfolding Fani Willis moral debacle—does not return things to zero.

Rather, they serve as force multipliers for each other. Each overreach geometrically increases the dangers to democracy, ever more turns the public off, and ironically cascades sympathy and poll numbers for the very target of their paranoias.

Some of the prosecutors have colluded with White House lawyers and congressional liaisons. Some had run for office, offering campaign promises to get Trump convicted...

It is becoming clear, even to those who don’t pay much attention to politics, that all of this is just fabricated to take Trump out of the election. The left can no longer scare people with claims that Trump will start a nuclear war or that he will crash the economy. The show trials are all the ‘RATs have left.

I've heard Alan Dershowitz say that any conviction that's handed down against DJT will be overturned in the Federal appeals courts. And we all know that there'll *at least* be one conviction before the election...DC.

And that's bound to hurt him with at least some voters who don't have the first clue that the prosecutions are all violations of DJT's basic constitutional rights.

Mobilizing the Department of Justice to go after your political opponents is such a dick move.

No no, that is saving “our democracy.”

And “our democracy” = “their (the democrats) democracy” and in their democracy, you shut up and obey.

“running out of gas”. ideally they’ll run out of gas on the railroad tracks they’ve been using on President Donald J Trump, and get run over by The TRUMP Train! here’s hoping that train doesn’t slow down...for survivors.

Run out of gas?

Time to crank up the wind turbines and solar panels.

Outstanding article, as always. Should be read by everybody who cares about the horrible state of affairs our country is in right now.

I think they know that most or all of these charges/convictions will be overturned on appeal. But this is the strategy of lawfare. They want to drain Trump’s resources to a large enough degree to affect his ability to fund a significant campaign. That is largely the goal, as well as to further besmirch his name among those who already hate him.

“Each overreach geometrically increases the dangers to democracy, ever more turns the public off, and ironically cascades sympathy and poll numbers for the very target of their paranoias.“

Actually I think they did this precisely to gain sympathy for Trump from GOPers who were no longer his supporters and wanted a real change in leadership in the GOP. His numbers were way down when they started their latest round of attacks, but people felt obligated to support him against these baseless, insane legal attacks.

I think the Dems know perfectly well that much of their actions will probably be found unconstitutional, and actually I expect to see them backing off now. They’ve achieved their purpose and they don’t need to spend any more money on this showtrial.

Recall that Client 9 made a big mistake threatening Wall Street tycoons. Shortly into his governor’s term, he was hoisted on his own petard with a hooker. Trump may not be the most popular business man in NYC, but anyone can see that if fat, stupid Letitia succeeds, she can blackmail anyone. I predict that dirt will leak on her soon.

"Wade so far has received over $650,000 as special counsel, reportedly including a miraculous ability to charge for 24 hours of continuous legal service in a single day"

That's nothing. I once had an employee attempt to charge 26 hours of Sunday double time. He was riding on a train that passed through 2 east-to-west time zones. He was never assigned such a trip again.

DJT45 will win the 2024 GE, but...

THE DEEP STATE WILL NEVER ALLOW HIM TO TAKE OFFICE. “SOMETHING” WILL HAPPEN TO PREVENT IT.

The “lawfare” never started. The rule of law is taking its course.

So when Trump does it against Biden and possibly others should he be elected, will it be a dick move then?
