“Many years ago I set up an email account I never identify with except for stuff like this. Once in a while I open it and delete everything.”
Oh you are identifiable all right... That used to work but not anymore.
The powers that be can trace email accounts right to the return verification sender’s personal local carrier/ISP internet connection account and even the device number which is unique. This also includes your physical address if you gave it to your carrier/ISP service to get an internet service account. Your phone number to track, And if you pay for service digitally they have your bank account number too.
Just don’t do it, walk away and never register with these untrusted sources period.
Sage advice. I miss the days of easy anonymity.
We're approaching the point for a business model that's just a bank of dummy accounts for registering for website viewing.
Oh if they want to go to that length, and dig back through a VPN through an company ISP that’s 1,200 miles away, behind a firewall and a load balancer, and from a virtual machine, go ahead. I’m not that paranoid.
