The Senate advanced another short-term spending bill Thursday afternoon.
The continuing resolution (CR) passed 77-18 over objections from conservatives, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who insisted on a vote to amend the bill, which failed.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) immediately moved to set up an afternoon vote in the House. Passage would extend funding levels and priorities originally set by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in December 2022.
The @HouseGOP is about to join the @SenateGOP to continue – AGAIN – to fund the federal govt at Pelosi’s spending levels, & continue to fund all manners of horrible abuse of power & polices from open borders & gun control to the UN and the WHO. All GOP should oppose.

Kill it in the House.
L
Senate can pass this but NONE of the funding bills.
That’s intentional of course.
Extend the funding levels set by Pelosi and Schumer?
Please No! Kill it!!
By the way, where the hell is McConnell? Did he die, or retire?
Groundhog’s Day...again.
Aren’t all spending bills supposed to originate in the House? If so, seems this bill is illegal or unconstitutional.
Why, did you expect McConnell to act against the Uniparty or something?
Only 18 senators voted against it? Outrageous!
“Illegal” and “unconstitutional” are synonyms.
Motion to vacate. /spit
I thought he said yesterday...NO WAY.
Sorry, due to inflation since the post we’ll have to see $21.10 for the old $20 bet. I know you were joking because wagering is illegal here, of course.
But I thought things got done efficiently and as promised whenever DC politicians are involved.
“They say the only things that stay the same are death and taxes. Death stays pretty much the same but taxes go up whenever Congress is in session.”
I have written my congresscritter to do just that, almost daily. I hope everyone else does that also. Keep the pressure up.
IF this bill is CONTINUING spending for another period of time-—ISN’T THAT STILL A SPENDING BILL ?????
I DO NOT SEE A “DIFFERENCE”.
Motion to vacate....
It did originate in the House as H.R. 2872...went to the Senate and after minor revisions and a vote, it was sent BACK to the House for final vote.
All funding bills do originate in the House.
Bills from the House earlier this year dealing with funding may have died in the Senate, or gotten tabled without a vote. Then for moments like this they are brought forth and amended in a way that the original content disappears and the new content is the bill.
Perfectly normal.
