What a nonsense article. War Merit Cross was the second lowest military award (the article mistakenly says one of the highest) and more than 8 million were given out during WW2.

He wasnt an SS officer, he was a Wehrmacht (Army) officer.
There were hundreds of thousands of officers in the WWII German Army.
And as noted above the War Merit Cross with swords (with swords when given to soldiers, it was also given to civilians, without swords) was not a combat award. It would be more like the US Legion of Merit.
Its rather silly to blast a person for her grandfather, especially as that complaint would apply to millions of living Germans today.
She is a Green Party politician, that is quite shameful enough on its own.
If you don’t get the connection between Germany and Ukraine, try to dig a bit more why there is a deeper reason for the war going on there. I dug through it a few years ago. it’s out there if you dig deep. I’m not up to the digging and my memory is fading. The Nazis are still operating around the world from the deep cover in UKraine. The important thing is why is the USA helping them?

I don’t think you can find a single German soldier who didn’t get the medal. There’s also a version of it for non-soldiers. If you were some air-raid warden, you got such a medal.
The other BS part....while Germans bought ‘Mein Kampf’ for display on their coffee table...if you asked enough questions, you’d determine that almost no one read the book or got anything out of it.
Unlike ‘Debit and Credit’ (the biggest selling book of the 2nd half of 1800s in Germany), which seemed to be read and quoted by almost everyone...you don’t get that impression with Hitler’s book.
Baerbock also wants to increase German defense spending. Something that Russian stooges hate.
Oh, they’ll throw the lines to complain about Germany’s low defense spending, but only to end with the demand to cancel any and all alliances with Germany.
When Germans actually do what is needed, they hate it.

As I’ve said before, there is around the world an undying fascination with Nazis. Case in point - ending WWII was not so much a ‘victory’ as a ‘settlement accord’ with Nazis, elst why did so many high Nazis after the war not only go unscathed but were welcomed in by the United States. Something is fishy here.
