Andra Day performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing," known as the Black national anthem, ahead of Super Bowl LVIII and received a rousing ovation from the fans at Allegiant Stadium.

Day was tapped to sing the song last month as part of the NFL’s pregame festivities. Additionally, Reba McEntire sang the national anthem and Post Malone did "America the Beautiful."

As Super Bowl Sunday arrived and Day sang, NFL fans on social media hurled criticism for the league having the Black national anthem performed. It started early in the day and continued.

“Lift Every Voice and Sing” at least references God, and prayer.

Far worse were the “He Gets Us” promoting some kind of demented, post-modern, Globohomo interpretation of Christianity.

The song addresses God in the last stanza, as does our national anthem:

And this be our motto - “In God is our trust.”

It’s not an “open borders” song. It’s a song by and for people who have been here for four centuries. Leave it the heck alone.

Yes, for handicapped people 😀 For autistic people like myself, maybe it could be „Stranger in a strange land“ by Iron Maiden - because that‘s what we are on this world, de facto.

Still, the Star-spangled Banner would include everybody.
It would get my vote, though, as I must admit, in secret, I like „America the Beautiful“ even more…

I wish everyone would just relax about this.

How would you like it if you had guests for supper, and after you led prayer in saying Grace, one of the guests stood up and announced that he would now be reciting a different prayer (implying that your saying Grace somehow wasn't "inclusive" enough)?

This all isn't occurring in a vacuum, devoid of context. "Happy Days Are Here Again!" is also a "beautiful song that is not the slightest bit revolutionary." But to sing it at a funeral, just as the casket is being lowered into the earth, would have certain, umm, implications.

For more than a century, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" has been promoted as a "Negro" (later: "Black") national anthem. It is dripping with political implications. It's not "just another song."

Regards,

Start calling it the Christian national anthem and they’ll stop performing it.

I find it totally appropriate. I guess it’s a matter of opinion.

That song is not the black national anthem. Someone just decided to call it that. It’s a beautiful song that worships God and is not the slightest bit revolutionary. I wish everyone would just relax about this.

It was also written by a Republican. Why so many here are willing to allow the left to take this from us is beyond me.

EXACTLY!

The last picture was a priest washing the feet of an obvious gay/transexual...while I agree, that Jesus may have washed his feet, that person would have walked away a changed, repentant person with a love for God!

They never mention that in all those “Jesus gets us” commercials.

YES! Jesus gets us, and then he changes us to be more Christ-like, in our love and adoration for GOD...not love for our own earthly sins!

The left has taken it and weaponized it against us.

The NFL hates us.

Don’t support them.

Jesus did hate, he hated sin, he hated hypocrisy and hypocrites, He hated what the church had become. Pointing out hypocrisy is why they had to kill him. He shined the light of truth on the temple leaders. the "whitewashed tombs" they were.

That whole commercial is aimed at lgbqtx to make them feel like theres a place in the love of Jesus for them and their abomination of what love is.

There is no middle ground, you either accept your worthless as a human and become a full bible believing Christ follower, or you are facing eternal damnation.

Who won?

Who was playing? The only thing I know about this year’s game is some blond singer was going to be there watching. I think she’s sleeping with one of the players.
