Hungary’s president resigns after backlash for pardon in child sex abuse case

President says she made a mistake and there should be 'zero tolerance that applies to pedophilia'.

The president of Hungary stepped down on Saturday following backlash to her pardon of a man who had been convicted of concealing sexual abuse of children.

Katalin Novák, 46, delivered a televised message on Saturday that she would throw in the towel after a Friday street protest against her pardoning decision.

"I issued a pardon that caused bewilderment and unrest for many people," Novák said Saturday.

"I made a decision to grant a pardon last April, believing that the convict did not abuse the vulnerability of children whom he had overseen. I made a mistake as the pardon and the lack of reasoning were suitable to trigger doubts over the zero tolerance that applies to pedophilia," Novák said.

Trying to contain the political fallout from the scandal, Orban, whose Fidesz party is beginning the campaign for European Parliament elections in June, submitted a constitutional amendment to parliament late on Thursday depriving the president of the right to pardon crimes committed against children.

If [Scott Ritter] lived in Hungary, he would have been given a presidential pardon too.

Logical fallacies:

  1. Couterfactual fallacy. [It didn't happen, but you are citing it as evidence to supprt that Hungary loves perverts despited ejecting its president for pardoning perverts]
  2. Irrelevant distration. Granting, ad arguendum, that Ritter is a pervert, that has nothing to do with Hungary.
  3. Fallacy of composition [a pervert was pardoned by one no resigned President; therefore, Hungary will pardon all perverts]
  4. Non sequitor.

Sorry, that won't work. Try something else.

She was forced out of office whatever names you want to call her.

Also another logical fallacy - ad hominem. And another - false dichotomy - e.g. if you are not a Zeeper you are a Zelocon which is defined only by not being a Zeeper, but it is something really really bad, I am sure.

Zeepers are not logically consistent. By Z-logic, therefore, if you are not a Zeeper, you are logically consistent.

That sounds like a really really really bad thing to be. I guess they all belong in jail as soon as your heros Jack Smith and Fani can get them there.

The root problem on Free Republic is the Zelocon propensity to view life through a paper towel tube and not seeing most of what is.

Narrow minded ignorance equates American politics with the war in Ukraine. Narrow minded paper towel tube vision promotes Russia and Vladimir Putin.

She is not “butch” at all.

Pope Francis was going to Hungary to visit. As usual (and expected by the Pope), the host country comes up with a list of people to be pardoned, in the name of:

forgiveness

K. Novak chose to OK a list of pardons, that she did not examine as carefully as she should have . . . for the one person (of 25) in the spotlight.

K. Novak passed the list off to J. Vargas, who at first, rejected that one person, but relented and OK’d the list.

Such is the process, in Hungary - requires 2 of these top officials to OK the list of people to be pardoned.

K. Novak, realizing her mistake, resigned. J. Vargas also resigned.

Victor Orban submitted a request to the Hungarian parliament, that child molesters not be qualified for a pardon, period.

And we got a pedophile in the White House. When will he resign?

The thing I never see discussed is what is driving pardons, failure to prosecute and early release. It’s the fantastic cost to keep someone locked up. A politician gets no votes for spending on keeping someone locked up. The votes come from reparations, building stuff, government giveaways, etc. So, at every opportunity and for every occasion, politicians will act to keep prison costs down. The danger to society is great, but seldom does the guilty politician pay any price for pivoting the budget from keeping someone locked up to government vote-getting giveaway. This is one of the few exceptions. Had she been an American Democrat this story would have been covered up and no price would be paid.

Katalin Novák: the pro-family approach should be a national minimum!

EXCERPTS:

"The pro-family approach should be a national minimum!" emphasised President of Hungary Katalin Novák on Thursday, on the opening day of the Budapest Demographic Summit in the Museum of Fine Arts.

"We have gathered here today as allies to each other and to families", said the President, adding that today, we are fighting for the freedom of families.

She stressed that the demographic winter that has afflicted the developed world is now turning into an ice age, and if there are no children, there is no future.

Katalin Novák recalled that we are the heirs of our freedom-fighting ancestors, and that through their lives we have learned that Hungarians do not get freedom for free, they must fight for it over and over again.

Unfortunately, this conservative slipped up. And unfortunately, the failsafe step, J. Vargas (also a conservative), also slipped up.

Trying to please the Pope, but moving too fast regarding their duties.

So asking for logical consistency is viewing life through a paper towel tube and not seeing the whole picture?

Most of us see the big picture. While you Zeepers want another couple hundred billion - this time - to cause the rotten foundations of Muscovia to collapse, you are quite all right with tens of millions coming across an open border and rotting the foundations of the American republic the strength of which you depend to keep Putin out of Ukraine and most particularly punish him for the crime of taking Crimea back.

They took my bait. While I hypothesized that sirglutusmaximus posted this as an attack on Hungary, that was a fact not in evidence. It now is. Squarely. Before the court of public opinion here. Hungarians are perverts. This is demonstrated by the fact that the voters forced the resignation the president who pardoned a pervert [a non-sequitor if ever there was one]. Apparently the perversion of the voters is to be surmised by the fact that the president pardoned this pervert on the belief that he was unfairly convicted of being a pervert [a second non-sequitor].
