Trump's penalty could cause NY biz exodus to FL, as New York State becomes 'legal banana republic': experts
Fox News ^ | 2/16/24 | Charles Creitz

Posted on 02/17/2024 7:03:56 AM PST by Libloather

Legal experts analyzed what they called "breathtaking" civil penalties against former President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, former Trump Organization Comptroller Jeffrey McConney and ex-CFO Allen Weisselberg – warning other corporations based in the Empire State may realize they could suddenly be put out of business by the state on a political whim.

New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron found Trump liable for more than $350 million in damages in the fraud suit brought against him and his company by New York State Democratic District Attorney Letitia James.

Trump Sr., the Trump Revocable Trust and Trump Organization were found liable for $60 million, while Trump's sons and Weisselberg were found liable for $4.01 million each – and Trump Sr. plus several entities including the Trump Organization and the LLC signifying Trump's Chicago hotel were banned from applying for loans with institutions registered with New York for three years.

The three Trump family members were also banned from serving as executives of any business or legal entity based in New York for a similar length – which is key, as the Trump Organization is housed at its iconic tower at 5 Av and E. 57th Street.

In that regard, former Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer told Fox News the ban may spur Trump to relocate his entire business empire to Florida, just as he has his primary residence.

"If you're Eric [or] Donald Junior, what are you going to do?" he asked.

"[Y]ou just say goodbye to New York, which fits a pattern that many successful people have been doing and leaving New York because New York is just too political, too blue and too punitive – you're seeing that in the business community and among upper income New Yorkers already," he said – adding...

I predict that James will never look for another real estate company under the same conditions that she just prosecuted President Trump for.

This was an unconstitutional excessive fine that will be overturned.

Not real sure it’s even a good place to live for anybody, even though the state does have a number of tourist attractions.

The appeals court has already reversed the judge 4 times on this case. He has just ignored their rulings.

Back in the mid-60’s Uncle Sam (he was benevolent then) had me living in Massachusetts. We would frequently take meandering Sunday afternoon drives, sometimes wandering into NY. Night and day. Everything looked shabby in NY. Same phenomena I experience now crossing the state line from illannoy into Wisconsin.

Ignore the judge.

The Judicial Branch is out of control and operating unconstitutionally.

So tell it to pound sand. What are they going to do? Arrest Trump by force?

Good luck with that.

True- that’ll work as well- ask the appeals judge why the property tax is so high if the building was worth only $18,000,000 according to ergeron- and ask the judge to clarify why the ruling was so high against him when he did nothing wrong-

If I wanted a loan in New York, I would start a declaratory court case for every loan now, asking that the court approve my valuation of my proposed collateral for any loan, and getting a court decree as to that value. Otherwise, I would be charged with fraud if my betters thought it necessary to stifle me.

Could the courts handle so many lawsuits?

The judge is corrupt and he likes to posts shirtless selfies on the internet.
No jury. Has millions that he cannot explain.

or any of Trump’s lawyers — educate yourself. The judged ruled against Trump on day one BEFORE testimony. Trump’s lawyers were NOT allowed to ask for a jury. Trump’s lawyers were NOT allowed to present evidence. Get it now? This is “LAWFARE.” So, check yourself.
