When U.S. news outlets' lucrative peddling of Chinese propaganda was exposed in 2019 and 2020, it was a scandal. Human rights groups condemned the practice, and the New York Times and Wall Street Journal swore off Chinese Communist Party money.
In the years since, however, a number of major U.S. newspapers and magazines have kept at it—accepting hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars from the Chinese Communist Party in exchange for publishing content by China Daily, a state-owned English-language paper. China Daily's Foreign Agents Registration Act filings show that between October 2020 and October 2023, the CCP mouthpiece paid outlets such as Time, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, and the Chicago Tribune a total of $8.2 million.

We have allowed the media ecosystem to be extremely susceptible to this.
We should have never allowed these monopolies like Google, in social media, and these media conglomerates to form. We should have never allowed our own government from having such a vast media presence.
It's impossible to herd 1,000 cats going in different directions. But when you only have one search engine, 6 major media conglomerates... Things can become very monotone: see Ukraine, J6, Covid, the 2020 elections as examples.

all that tells me is that its the Chinese trying to censor us...and that they have a network of collaborators at the head of which are elements of our own government

It can be a different perspective and that’s ok.
Tuckers interview didn’t hide who the true source was.
The problem is when these US based media outlets print “copy and paste jobs” and you the reader are not informed about the true source. When they self censor because they are worried about the potential of pissing someone off that pays them.
That’s the irony to me. We ban RT and censor them, even though you know who they are and what their angle will be, but we allow the communist Chinese to run amok over us in secret.
That far-left “disinformation” fiasco is nothing but a bucket of commie feces. “Disinformation” is all that comes out of the far-left fake “media”.
It’s the ones always screaming about “misinformation” that are the biggest liars, because they want exclusive control over the “truth”. They don’t believe in free speech, only their speech.
Hard Left "benefactors" are dumping cash on the Associated Press and the Seattle Times to hire reporters for in depth Climate analysis.
The Seattle Times now averages one front page Climate story - with a local twist - every week.
Headlines like: "Orcas Starving To Death In Puget Sound."
The Associated Press is receiving about $150,000 per month from just one Climate Lobby to report Warming propaganda.
Now that was an artillery barrage of a reply. Good info.

I am beyond just critical, I’m outright cynical when it comes to anything I see in TV or read in a paper anymore.
News = advertising.
IMHO, that is the consequence of “free” media driven by advertisement.
They want to make money, and you’re not really the one paying them. You’re just the target of the advertising for the firms or interest groups that are paying them.
And the “news” is itself advertising.
