Judge holds veteran journalist Catherine Herridge in civil contempt for refusing to divulge source

A federal judge held veteran investigative reporter Catherine Herridge in civil contempt on Thursday for refusing to divulge her source for a series of Fox News stories about a Chinese American scientist who was investigated by the FBI but never charged.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington imposed a fine of $800 per day until Herridge complies, but the fine will not go into effect immediately to give her time to appeal.

...

“Herridge and many of her colleagues in the journalism community may disagree with that decision and prefer that a different balance be struck, but she is not permitted to flout a federal court’s order with impunity,” wrote Cooper, who was nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama.

...

Herridge, who was recently laid off by CBS News, published an investigative series for Fox News in 2017 that examined Chen’s ties to the Chinese military and raised questions about whether the scientist was using a professional school she founded in Virginia to help the Chinese government get information about American servicemembers.

...

Philbin, who served as deputy White House counsel during the Trump administration, has said that forcing Herridge to turn over her sources “would destroy her credibility and cripple her ability to play a role in bringing important information to light for the public.”

Philbin also told the judge that disclosing the identity of Herridge’s sources raises national security concerns, writing in court papers that there is a “serious risk” that Chen “was involved in making information about U.S. military members available” to the Chinese.

Print up your questions in a local paper.

I will publicly request that my source send the judge a letter with responses.

Herridge needs to understand the huge national interest in locating and liquidating these leakers. Biden was paid good money to deal with these things and China is big on looking after their national interests.

CBS didn’t find the files they were hoping to when they seized her documents after they fired her. That means the government is afraid she has personal files tucked away so they need a reason to raid her.
They just crafted one
Countdown until the FBI storms her house.

We see now why she was let go, and why they kept her notes. Birds of a commie feather, flock together.

Herrige had previously stated that the NSA or CIA has hacked into her computers. She’s smart enough that the source only exists in her memory, not in any documents.

Looks like FBI material was leaked to Herridge imagine if the FBI did that to some Conservative-Republican someone supporting Trump someone associated with J6.

Imagine giving dirt on one of us to the FBI and some reporter doing the story making us look bad.

They did it to a Chinese-American accused of Chinese military connections so everyone is taking her side in this story.

Technically the First Amendment applies to Herridge but the spirit of this not good ole First Amendment journalism IMHO.

I’m really not impressed with these journalists — even the good ones.

If I was Catherine Herridge, I’d have files all over my office, home and on my computers listing “Biden, Hunter” as a source for every story that has attracted the interest of the FBI.

Ah, yes, that clarifies the whole thing.

What administration illegally spied on several journalists? Yep, that one.

Thanks, GOP, for letting that all completely slide.

I was trying to remember if that was Catherine Herridge or Sharyl Attkisson that Jugears had the FBI spy on. Or was it both?

"Herridge, who was recently laid off by CBS News, published an investigative series for Fox News in 2017 that examined Chen’s ties to the Chinese military and raised questions about whether the scientist was using a professional school she founded in Virginia to help the Chinese government get information about American servicemembers."

When the story first broke, I suspected the seizure of her files by CBS was related to the China case, which was investigated by Herridge when she was at Fox News.

So now they're back to putting the squeeze on Herridge, not having found what they were looking for. Smart girl, that one.

The bigger question in my mind is who put the pressure on CBS (I'm guessing it is elements in the US government). And it looks like there are more figures/institutions compromised by China than we suspect. Scary thought.

Side note: I notice a parallel with the raid on Mar a Lago re: "the binder".
