Don Day Says Women In Viral Video Lucky They Weren’t Fried By Lightning
Cowboy State Daily ^ | March 06, 2024 | Andrew Rossi

Two women laughing and smiling in a viral video with hair standing straight up from static electricity were likely in the path of an imminent lightning strike and are lucky they weren’t fried

If...the static electricity in the air makes your hair stand on end, a lightning strike isn’t a risk. It’s imminent. Those were the circumstances behind a viral video filmed at the Horseshoe Bend Overlook in Arizona’s Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. A woman filmed her mother as her long hair stuck straight out from her head and static crackled from the end of her pointed finger on an overcast day.

The mother/daughter duo were all smiles as they claimed having found “a magnetic portal.” [Egads! Kooky liberals]

...meteorologist Don Day said if the women knew the truth of their situation, they wouldn’t find it so enchanting. “If people are in the vicinity of that static charge building up, there's a very high likelihood that they could be in the path of a lightning strike. It's very serious business.” Day believes...that the women were standing in the pathway of an imminent lightning strike.

Despite appearances, lightning isn’t random. It’s well-known that lightning tends to be attracted to metal and “the tallest points” on a landscape, but he said there are observable signs of where lightning is likely to strike the ground. “Before a lightning strike, you get a pathway from the ground up to the cloud. Charges are built up between the positive and the negative, and when they build up enough, you're going to have a lightning strike.”

...these pathways indicate the general vicinity where a lightning bolt could strike. That could be between a few feet and several yards, and there’s no safety within that area of effect.

Be sure to watch the video of the woman experiencing her hair standing up and sparks from her fingers!

I can't believe these women have ZERO training on the outdoors, don't have a clue as to what's happening to them, and know how to keep safe from lightning. I suppose there are lots of people with zero training, out for a scenic tour, get out of their car and can experience this. They are REALLY lucky to be alive.

I was always taught to lie flat on the ground. The article says to get into a ball and stand on your toes! I'd like to see somebody on their toes for ten minutes while crouched down in a ball.

Back in the mid-seventies, I was camping above a lake in the Wind Rivers in Wyoming when a big thunderstorm rolled in. The sky was black and we were watching lightning hitting the open rock hill on the other side of the lake. We were young and stupid and didn't take shelter in the car; we just sat there watching the incredible lightning show. I guess I should not be amazed at these women's behavior since I was once that stupid.

No doubt about that. That’ll sure be a hair-raising story to tell the kiddos and grandkids.

“The article says to get into a ball and stand on your toes!”

That is not what it says.

The high desert, coupled with a little elevation or altitude, seems to be the trick for some weird stuff.

I was camping solo not too far (as such things are measured out West) from there, and heard a lightning strike a good ways away. About 15 or 20 seconds later maybe, this glowing ball of plasma, about the size of a volleyball maybe cam bouncing, sparking, and hissing right through my campsite and ultimately disappeared underneath my truck. I thought it was going to hit me, and always wondered what would have happened. Definitely made a sizzle swooshing sound as it careened around stuff. It was pretty cool.

I saw that picture on the Accuweather web site. They said that a few years ago someone posted a similar picture of a child standing with his hair sticking out. Sadly the child was struck and killed moments later.

Wow. Isn’t that “St. Elmo’s Fire” or “ball lightning”? That must have something to see. It’s pretty rare, too.

I guess my reading comprehension is acting up again…
…the only option is to get as small as possible, and stay on your toes.

“Make yourself as small of a target as possible. Crouch down to make yourself the smallest target possible, then lift your feet so you're only sitting on your toes. You're reducing the surface area that could be affected and keeping less contact with the ground if the current goes through there.”

But for how long? Unfortunately, imminent isn’t immediate. In those circumstances, it could be a few seconds or several minutes before the lightning strikes or its pathway changes.

Please interpret that for us.

I’ve been struck by lightning. I had come indoors when I saw saw and heard a big storm coming, but was right next to a high point-an FM antenna. It was not fun, and I do not intend to repeat the experience...

I can't believe these women have ZERO training on the outdoors

What our nation's youth once learned from Scouting is now only permitted with a heap of LGBT+ indoctrination.

Here, wiki/Ball_lightning.

They were made by Nicholas Tesla, also somewhere on the web is a video of him making these in a lab and he said they were Buckyballs.

Meaning they were 30 sided.

I was almost struck by lightning. A thunderstorm came out of nowhere and it started pouring on top of me as I went to check the mail. A few houses away I saw a bolt of lightning hit the street. I ran back inside he house FAST, but my hair was standing on end. Then I got a bad headache and I suddenly had no energy for hours. Like the life had been zapped right out me. I think I got pretty lucky that day. My Mama was visiting from out of state, and it was sure nice she was around!

I was fly fishing in a storm in Western North Dakota once when I got zapped down my fly rod through my arm, down my torso and out my leg.

I threw down the rod and lay flat on the ground.
