Here We Go: SC Sheriff Says He Fears Constitutional Carry Will Turn State Into 'Wild, Wild West'
Bearing Arms ^ | 3/8/24 | Cam Edwards

Now that South Carolina has officially become the 29th state to adopt Constitutional Carry (and the 28th to have the law formally take effect, since Louisiana's new statute doesn't kick in until July 4th), the state's few pro-gun control voices are ramping up their fearmongering. Everytown for Gun Safety's South Carolina chapter is already predicting the new law will lead to more violence and less safety, while the state's most politically powerful sheriff says he's turning to the Almighty to protect the state from Constitutional Carry's effects.

"Law enforcement agencies in South Carolina are bracing for what could happen as permitless carry of handguns becomes more widespread in the coming weeks, with one sheriff already fearing the worst.

“I just said a prayer last night that I hope my greatest fears don’t come true, and that’s that South Carolina becomes the Wild, Wild West,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told The Post and Courier.

Lott’s comments came as Gov. Henry McMaster signed a bill into law March 7 granting state residents the right to have handguns in most public places."

Another pig cop, this time a sheriff, shooting off his ignorant mouth. Why do we have to suffer such absolute morons in any professional position?

Despite complete and total evidence in 26 other states to the contrary, this a-hole runs his mouth but will never admit he was a tool when later proved wrong.

Do everyone a favor and resign now you flaming pos.

Not that I have any strong opinions on the matter.

P.S. from WV. No. 9 in 2016, and not a peep from similar jerk face pig cops who said the same lies.

If only justice were meted out as it was in the “wild, wild west”.

“The people LEOs have to worry about we’re already carrying without a permit.”

Exactly. In every city and town the majority of crimes are committed by the same people. If the LEOs and Courts would concentrate on getting those people off the street, crime would drop dramatically. For instance, when the local thug/druggie ne’re-do-well in our area finally went to prison the thefts of outside tools and small yard equipment stopped completely.

We don’t need to speculate about this. 28 states have adopted constitutional carry. Has it turned those states into the Wild West?

Have crime rates exploded there?

Has every altercation turned into a shootout?

Oh. I see. Then why would that happen in South Carolina when it didn’t happen anywhere else?

Fear Mongering fail.

“Which bike week are you referring to? the harley one or the one where 1/2 of the beach stores close to prevent them from being cleaned out by BLM?”

Those are definitely two different things. With one, the businesses make a lot of money and suffer few losses. With the other, businesses lose money by either closing altogether or suffering theft and property damage. With one, traffic accidents, DUIs, shoootngs, and fights are few and far between; with the other they increase dramatically and the LEOs have to work double-shifts and overtime.

Interesting to me are real and fictional town marshals in western towns. A great fictional town marshal, Virgil Cole, banned guns as one of his very first acts everywhere he went.

Turns out he was in violation of the second amendment by doing so. I wonder about say Boston or New York in the 1870’s. Did they outlaw guns way back then. Were they the precedent for a gun free Appaloosa?

The sheriff must have a very low opinion of South Carolinians.

South Carolina is already the Wild, Wild West.

Thanks to the leftist/woke insanity, so is the rest of America.

American cities are dangerous, overwhelmed by crime and lawlessness. The more leftist/woke, the more dangerous, i.e. the more Wild, Wild West, but, because of leftist/woke influences on the US Federal Government, even sane places like South Carolina have become dangerous.

Obviously anyone in the Wild, Wild West who doesn't arm himself to protect himself and his family is a fool. If people cannot rely on government to protect them, they will protect themselves--and they should.

I leave town during BLM Bike Week. Not a rider but a lot of my friends are. I actually hang out with them at the festiviities. That being the real bike week.

Well, it’s too late to worry about lawlessness now.

People should have thought about that before defunding the police and instituting *justice reform* and going soft on criminals.

People need to be able to defend themselves and the only ones who have anything to worry about are the criminals.

Too bad for them. Don’t do the crime if you don’t like the consequences.

NH and ME are both Constitutional Carry states and have low crime rates.

The Sheriff needs to familiarize himself with the Second Amendment.

The only issues with harley bike week are the bars being loud and disturbing the surrounding area karens 🤬

otoh, BBW is racing, hotels getting trashed, shootings, drugs, prostitutes, and maga shoplifting. all met with " y'all a bunch of racists, yall dont shut everything down for the white peoples" " the ACLU is suing myrtle businesses for closing during black bike week". claiming racism after store owners and hotels each lose 1000's in theft and damages.

Great question. I been in Myrtle exactly four weeks. I have no idea what Bike Week is like. My cousins who live down here said DO NOT go anywhere near the events because it can get ugly.

“Hartford data drawn from 345 gun violence incidents between January 2019 and March 2021 shows that 85% of the suspects arrested for gun crimes had been convicted of gun crimes previously.

Last year, of the 44 people arrested in Hartford for murders or attempted murders with guns, 39% had charges pending from other crimes, but had been released from custody after posting bond. Fifteen percent were on probation. Five percent were on parole. Of those arrested last year, 39% had prior convictions for violent felonies or gun crimes.

The victims, according to the data, differ little from their shooters.”

https://www.ammoland.com/2023/02/mayors-discover-data-surprise-most-gun-violence-involves-repeat-offenders/#axzz7uYNIq7ts

I still follow Chicago’s statistics - no connection to Chicago, it was just where I first read about it. Year after year, 80-85% of the VICTIMS have criminal records, and according to an Illinois study, the VICTIMS average over 10 prior arrests!

Think about that: Year after year, in big cities, the people DYING in the streets have criminal records and they average 10+ prior arrests!

I’ve seen the statistics for NYC and LA and they are almost exactly the same. “Thugs killing Thugs”. Sometimes the thugs miss and accidentally kill innocent people. But we don’t have a “gun violence” problem. We have a “They won’t lock them up!” problem!

“A great fictional town marshal, Virgil Cole, banned guns as one of his very first acts everywhere he went.”

The gunfight at the OK Corral was started when the Earps wanted to confiscate guns - IAW city rules. “According to the Earps’ version of events, the fight was in self-defense because the Cowboys, armed in violation of local ordinance, defied a lawful order to hand over their weapons and drew their pistols instead.” - Wiki
