“publicly owned domed stadium and park space”
Domed?
Wimps.
So why are NYS taxpayers screwed?
Well, yeah, because taxes start off in private hands, before the government gets their filthy hands on it. Anyone who thinks taxpayers aren’t footing all or most of the bill is delusional.
New Buffalo Bills stadium cost overruns approaching $300M, AP sources say
Supposedly the Bills are on the hook for the overruns, but NYS taxpayers are still having to fork over around $850 mil.
Miami, L.A., Las Vegas, New Orleans are constantly holding Super Bowls so any money you put in their stadiums, it'll pay off in the long run.
But if you build a dome in Detroit, nobody is going to want to watch the Super Bowl there. So you might as well as take advantage of the home field during the winter like they do in Green Bay and Buffalo.
The developer will run out of money—and then when the stadium is half built the locals can either finish it with taxpayers money or demolish it with taxpayers money.
The grandstand, an architectural pleasure, was demolished when the land was sold a few months ago.
Congrats. That has to be an awesome memory.
I still think the Bears want to move to Arlington Heights. Getting in to Soldier Field with 70,000 other people really sucks. The city of Chicago will be forced to put up major $$ to keep it downtown. It will take several billion in grants to keep it. Chicago can’t afford it but will do it anyway.
Nearly all the NFL teams can afford to build their own stadiums……but why when cities throw money at you.
Maybe they should relocate to Oklahoma City and build it there.:)
“Da Bars!”
From back in the day when SNL was actually still funny. A very long, long time ago.
I think the Bears ownership is still majority owned by members of the Halas family. If they are still owners it is unlikely that they are funding a new stadium. So who is?
A cousin by marriage of my mom, shoed race horses for a living. He was at one time the Secretary/Treasurer and later President of the labor union representing these blacksmiths.
We visited him at Arlington a couple of time.
He once told me that he knew thousands of people connected to horse racing: trainers, owners, jockeys, and many many regulars betting at the track. He also told me something I have never forgotten. Of all these thousands, he only knew one person who consistenly could pick winners and made a very good living from betting on the ponies.
I wonder if you ever met him. :)
How many undocumented families can be housed there?
1 more team not worth watching..... Indoor football, is like indoor golf.
All he had to do was pick the ones I didn’t.... he’d have made a fortune. I had a patient in the 1990s who has been a banker that handled the deposits for Arlington Park.... Amazing numbers for sure.
I met a gentleman who was cashing a winning ticket on a horse that paid $2.20 to win on a $2.00 bet. I scoffed at that and asked how he could make anything on the favorites like that.... he smiled and said you can when you do it for a living and bet enough !! I did realize that, like Vegas, they don’t build those places so people like me can take money home from there !!
I also lost my share at Maywood Park, Sportsman’s Park, Hawthorne Park, and Balmoral Park.
Unfortunately not all that uncommon with pro sports teams.
its all a faked show folks....you’re watching a faked show...
