Sounds like they should have just “pretended” the door was locked then... This could have injured innocents inside the breach along with the suspects in a real situation.

If you need an indication that you messed up the handling some device, substitute a flash bulb or firecracker for the explosive.
Playing around with live explosives is very stupid, unless you are actual military.
Given how politicized modern Union cops are I’m finding it hard to feel sympathy.
