The subject of the article is about a portion of the Ukraine-Russia war, specifically how Russia is requiring passports in the area they now control due to the war's effect to date. The context is the Ukraine-Russia "officially" non-NATO war.
As I wrote in my comment, " ALL is subsumed under the larger rubrics of government and debt. The current US government, post-Nuland, is still Biden's administration in all its activities and foci and expenditures, of which the Ukraine-Russia war is one among many. And the current US debt is rising very rapidly. 34.5 trillion USD, because the nation and its economy are now operating on a gigantic credit card."
More money and materiel for Ukraine? It runs the tab on that gigantic credit card by whatever amount is next "put on the tab."
Your (and each kid / grand kid you might have) are ON THAT TAB currently for about $266 thousand "per taxpayer." It probably doesn't concern you, but it concerns me. And the tab rises. That's "what the heck" what I posted has to do with the article.
A year from now, Trump will cut a deal with Putin.
The Donbas will become Russian territory, period, full stop. The rest of Ukraine will become a buffer state, sort of like what Belarus is now. Ukraine will be rebuilt and stay out of NATO, forever.
The dancing queen Zelenskyy will have NO SAY in the matter. He will be lucky that Putin does not demand his execution.
The ONLY other alternative will be for Ukraine to disagree giving up on Donbass and continue fighting the war with no funding from USA, in which case Russia will take ALL of Ukraine territory.
Better half a loaf than none. If Ukraine accepts the terms then they can live another day, with a mostly complete territory and autonomous government. Take it or leave it.
The mark of a true politician is his ability to trick audiences into diverting attention from an embarrassing subject by fulminating on something else.

If Trump does that, it will be as great a crime as FDR's giving away Poland and Czechoslovakia to Stalin at Tehran.

If Trump still has it together, he’ll allow Russia to keep the Ukrainian-speaking rural areas near Rostov and Belgorod while restoring Ukraine’s ‘91 borders. That will be sad for those near the NE Azov Sea who hate Russian rule but are trapped on the wrong side of those ‘91 lines.
Indeed, you hit the bull-s eye there. Trick audiences into diverting attention.
So one's Overton window is 'politically' clamped down to two choices and two choices only. To wit: pay for the Zelensky government side in the war to oppose the Putin government, or be deemed a "Putin supporter." No third alternative is rhetorically allowed.
Except there are other and larger issues. And other points of view. The politician is the one who tries to divert attention from any but the hoped-for TWO alternatives.
Here's an alternative, which will be coming. Negotiate. Here's another, applicable to both sides in a war. Lose. Or win. Here's another: Europe enters the war formally on the side of the Zelensky government. Here's another: Europe rejects entering the war formally.
Governments come and go. Zelensky's and Putin's and Biden's and Macron's, and so on. The press is filled with partisan worries that the "populists" or "right" will win European elections in the next cycles, and thereby upset the current "apple cart." Many of these same European press voices are currently terribly worried about Trump winning a next term of office here. And these voices are ALL political. As is yours.
So playing the "true politician" is quite like playing the "no True Scotsman." There are a priori elements evident which don't like being seen. Yours is overtly political, and resists putting the Ukraine-Russia war beneath the larger frame of our nation's fiscal health. Strategic interests and all that. But MY largest strategic interest is in our survival by the demise of the Biden administration at our ballot box, and it trumps -- pun not intended -- a Zelensky administration or Putin administration survival. By a lot.
You argue "put it on the tab." I argue, don't. Herb Stein's advice will apply: what cannot continue will stop.
Well, in all fairness, Lughansk and Donetsk provinces are filled with ethnic Russians. They did vote in 2014 for their Independence from Ukraine, Ukraine replied by shelling and bombing them for eight years.
Since Vlad has now liberated them, the shelling and bombing by the Ukies has stopped, primarily because the Ukies shelled them from the city of Avidivka….
We all know what happened to Avidiivka, a Ukie rout. There were many celebrations.
Another trick of lying politicians is to falsely put words into the mouths of their opponents. I never said anything about "putting it on the tab", nor is there anything remotely like that in the article I posted. Your obsessions have completely run away with you.
I certainly hope you're right. But I'm sick and tired of having to hold my nose while voting for the Republican candidate only because the Democrat is worse. Which is to say every single election since Reagan.
