Nancy Pelosi told GOP Rep. Mike Lawler he should thank Gov. Hochul for his election win

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told Republican Rep. Mike Lawler that he should thank Gov. Kathy Hochul for helping him and other New York GOPers get elected, the Hudson Valley lawmaker told The Post Friday.

Pelosi said Lawler and his fellow Republican state reps should be grateful to Hochul because weak Democratic results had allowed them to win their House races two years ago.

The California Democrat noted, too, that they should express gratitude after the governor approved new congressional maps last month with limited alterations to district lines.

“We all had a great laugh,” Lawler told Politico, who was first to report on the exchange.

“I think Nancy Pelosi is a very astute observer of politics and understands that on a fair set of maps, Republicans have a big opportunity in New York.”

She’s not wrong in this case. Lawler bleating about any chance for “fair maps” in New York is the one being hilarious here.

Numerous people have hypothesized — and they are surely correct — that Lee Zeldin’s strong showing (or Hochul’s weakness, if you prefer) helped Republicans to several fluke wins in Democrat districts.

Santos, D’Esposito, Lawler, Molinaro & Williams all won very close elections in 2022 and the GOP only lost 1 close House election (CD-18) in New York; going 5 for 6 in tossups is hardly a normal situation for Republicans, much less new York Republicans.

Santos of course is already out, and his district has been gerrymandered to make sure it stays in Democrat hands. Williams was also the victim of “harsh” gerrymandering and is probably as good as gone in November. RINO coward D’Esposito is also facing the same fate in CD-4, even without gerrymandering.

It’s going to take another major anomaly/fluke/upset for these squishes to win again in November.

Trump doing better than expected in NY would be an anomaly though he’ll never come close to what Zeldin got in ‘22. But seeing as how Lawler, Williams, D’Esposito & Molinaro are all Trump-hating RINOs to one extent or another, Trump’s success (if he has any) in New York may not help them much.

I hope Mr. Lawler said, “Thank you, Representative Pelosi. Your district is Sh!thol!a, California, right?”
