Barely six months into the job, House Speaker Mike Johnson is already at risk of the same conservative revolt that took down his predecessor.
The Louisiana Republican, who only took the gavel in October after weeks of GOP infighting, was put on “warning” by one of his harshest critics Friday after he helped push through a $1.2 trillion spending package with majority Democratic votes despite heavy criticism from his right flank.
During the vote, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed a resolution with the House clerk — called a motion to vacate — that would remove Johnson from office if approved by the House. And while Greene did not force the resolution to be taken up immediately, she told reporters she was laying the groundwork for consideration once the House returns from recess in two weeks.
“It’s more of a warning,” Greene said. She would not commit to a timeline for calling a vote, but added, “We’ve started the clock to start the process to elect a new speaker.”

The 80/20 rule always applies so nothing new there, However your and mine only options ae to vote in the primaries and vote out the incumbents each and every election cycle.
I don’t understand certain evangelicals. When I opined that Mike Johnson would reveal himself to be no better than Mike Pence I was met with shouts of, “But he prays!” The wolves in sheep’s clothing are 100% assured of victory with that crowd.
It is fair to say that the French Foreign Legion is more than happy to provide dummies as cannon fodder for The Republic be that in Algeria or Vietnam
Yet
The rats will never vote to keep him. Looks to me like the rats will have the House by August and it will be nightmare.
He may not be the problem but he sure isn't the solution either. The spending bill contained not one win for the people unless they are LGBTQRSV.
I don’t live in Mike Johnson’s district, so he doesn’t answer to me.
Newt was on Laura last night and thought that getting rid of McCarthy was a mistake. When the Republicans have such a small majority a few members can have a lot of leverage, but they are in danger of losing the majority before the election—a couple of more Republicans quit Congress out of spite and we will get a Democrat Speaker. Worst of all, the committees would all be controlled by the Democrats and any honest investigations would stop.
Evangullibles.
Yet i do read that in spending money it does not have, ,
The bipartisan bill adheres to the spending caps imposed by last year’s debt ceiling deal. It funds the procurement of eight battle ships and dozens of new aircraft, provides a small amount of Ukraine military aid and offers multiyear procurement for six critical munitions. The bill includes $33.5 billion to build eight ships and allocates funds for 86 F-35 and 24 F-15 EX fighter jets as well as 15 KC-46A tankers. There’s also a combined $2.1 billion for the Army’s Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon and the Navy’s Conventional Prompt Strike hypersonic weapons system.
The bill retains $300 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the Pentagon to place contracts for equipment to send Kyiv. House Republican leaders had initially removed the $300 million in Ukraine aid amid opposition from the right flank of their caucus when they narrowly passed their version of the defense spending bill 218-210 in September.
But even with the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds back in the bill, the $300 million is far less than the $60 billion in security and economic support for Kyiv provided in the Senate’s foreign aid bill...
War games hosted by the House China Committee in April found the U.S. would rapidly run out of munitions — including the SM-6, Naval Strike Missile and Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile — in a war with Beijing in the Pacific.
Additionally, the bill provides an $800 million boost to the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit, for a total budget of $983 million in FY24. It also provides $200 million for Replicator, the Pentagon’s effort to buy and field thousands of drones by next August.
Finally, the legislation cuts funding for the Defense Department civilian workforce by $1 billion.- https://www.defensenews.com/congress/2024/03/21/defense-spending-bill-has-some-ukraine-aid-multiyear-munitions-buys/
I disagree with Newt. Usually I like the guy but he's wrong on this.
If RINOs decide to quit the House due to spite maybe we need to look at the whole thing differently.
The Whig Party became extinct and for a good reason.
Perhaps it's time to establish the MAGA Party. Every candidate will make a vow and will resign from Congress after they met their term limits. And we'll hold them accountable.
Nope no-one can but we shouldn't encourage them either.
Note my tagline.
Many Republicans are secretly Democrats, no Democrats are secretly Republicans.....Dan Bongino.
Except we never hold them accountable for the promise of self limiting their terms. The elected politician soon discovers its better to be in office then out. We the voters love him getting us access to the taxpayer trough.
It won’t matter if their MAGA party or not. Nothing magical with those 4 letters just human nature.
Term limit the House!
Repeal the 17th Amendment!
State legislatures can’t do worse!

Most interesting is that Gaetz was under investigation for sex with an underage girl while he was serving in Congress.
They had all the goods on him...
after a multi-year investigation. Charges were dropped when Gaetz the great political hatched his plan.
What an amazing coincidence.
Gaetz is a snake in the grass.
First, If you cannot vote for man, than why complain about the man.
Second, IF you vote in the primaries, vote out your current incumbent
The only thing useful in holding thr majority with this bunch is that the Rats aren’t doing endless investigations into Trump. Beyond that a Rat majority would produce about the same results.
IF Republicans do it again, RINOs will turn on us and vote for Jefferies. I say leave Johnson in there.
Are you perhaps referring to the Tray "ears" Gowdy and his infamous investigations? Libya anyone?
I’m going to agree with Higgins. Not because Johnson is a great speaker but I believe Jeffries wins speakership if they oust Johnson. Johnson is better than Jeffries.
All investigations STOP if Jefferies is speaker.
“What are the chances that if Johnson gets removed, the RINOs in the House will help elect Hakeem Jeffries Speaker for spite?”
VERY LIKELY
All investigations stop if Jefferies gets it
