Opinion: Biden and Trump know Kennedy’s VP choice is a game changer

There is nothing remotely normal or conventional about this presidential election. Alice in Wonderland would feel right at home bouncing about between the fantastical issues plaguing the Biden and Trump campaigns.

For the current president, voters worry about Biden’s age, perceived cognitive issues, his son Hunter’s legal and perception problems, growing policy failures, and a country and world going more sideways by the day. For the previous president, it’s hard for some voters to unsee the FBI raid on Trump’s home in Florida, his mug shot, multiple indictments by Democratic prosecutors and district attorneys, trial dates and the greater “lawfare” campaign being purposefully amplified by some in the media. With that as background, it is no surprise that approximately 70 percent of voters indicate they do not want Biden or Trump as their next president. Enter — stage middle — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

I read this move by Kennedy as an attack on Biden’s base.

I don’t think Kennedy has any real shot at any electoral votes. I think he wants to get out in front of the Democrat defection crowd.

The national Democrats are bad dudes and a lot of people can see it. They may not be ready to vote Republican but they can see that the national Democrat culture is crazy and unsupportable.

Progressives are shying away from Democrats and want a place to go.

Kennedy is making a move to get them to go for his ticket.

I think it is shrewd for him, a nightmare for Biden, and good for Trump.

Down ballot loss of a few percent for democrats in 7 states is not a trivial impact.

Biden was already a dementia patient in 2020... they’ll pump him full of ergoloids and stimulants and feed him answers in his ear so as long as he can simply parrot they’ll prop him up.

They’ll make sure the thing is well time boxed and that they control the camera angles etc.. same tricks as always... but I don’t see no debates happening... though I suspect highly the DNC would prefer no debates happen.

Right now, the Dems are now going to have to split their efforts, they can’t just simply focus on Trump 100%, they need to undercut Kennedy, at least enough to keep him under the watermark for debate participation.

Their reaction to his VP pick tell you just how scared they are... UP until this pick you could try to argue RFK will pick off both sides (even though polling clearly showed RFK picked more from Biden than Trump).. but with this pick its beyond clear that right leaning voters are now going to be far far far less likely to consider Kennedy... and Left wing voters are DESPERATE for anyone but Biden, so the more exposure he gets, the worse it is for Biden.

Biden has lost about 20% of his supporters from 2020, this is consistent in the polling, while Trump has lost about 3%... (and gained more than that from former Biden voters)... So Any third party was always going to pull more from the Dems than the Republicans, but up until this pick they could still put out a disingenuous talking point that RFK would pull from both... or “could” hurt Trump more... With this pick, its pretty clear that talking point is DOA.

How many self righteous libertarians will not vote Trump? My guess just enough to sway the election.

No doubt. Probably not for Senate races, but House, state and local races could definitely be swayed.

I agree about this pick. I could never vote for a ticket with Shanahan on it. Still there is so much hate and especially fear being generated but the Dems and media that Trump is Hitler that 100s of 1000s of Dems who might not have voted or haven’t voted will turn out. And if they actually don’t, then that fear will be used to explain Biden vote numbers that are the product of cheating.

It will be impossible for RFK to actually carry a whole state. That won’t happen. He’s no George Wallace. But he might swing a state to Trump here and there. Remember Ralph Nader gave the 2000 election to Dubya by getting 100,000 otherwise-Gore votes in florida..
