He wears sunglasses to make him look younger. It hides his wrinkles and bags under his eyes. That is the only possible reason, especially when there is no sun.

I wonder that myself and why “aviator” glasses? Fancies himself as Howard Hughes maybe? He squints awfully when he doesn’t have them on. I wonder why he doesn’t wear glasses if his eyesight is that bad.
