A Brooklyn man has been convicted of 13 weapons charges after having been arrested and charged in 2022 for building his own firearms. Dexter Taylor’s ordeal could become a landmark Second Amendment case in light of the Bruen ruling handed down in the same year.
The jury found Taylor guilty of second-degree criminal possession of a loaded weapon, four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of five or more firearms, unlawful possession of pistol ammunition, violation of certificate of registration, prohibition on unfinished frames or receivers. Two lesser charges, including third-degree criminal possession of three or more firearms and third-degree possession of a weapon, were not voted on.

The judge disrupted Varghese’s opening statement multiple times as he tried to set the stage for Taylor’s defense. Even further, she admonished the defense to refrain from mentioning the Second Amendment during the trial. Varghese told RedState:
She told us, ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.'

At the company where I worked, I was having a conversation at lunch with an amateur gun smith who worked in our shop. He did his gunsmithing at home. The HR manager was sitting behind us. When I got back from lunch I was called into the VP’s office and told she wanted to write us both up for a violation in the companies “do not talk policy.” The policy, which was a contract because it wasn’t legal, specified things like not telling jokes, not discussing religion, or sex or politics, etc. I pointed out that gunsmithing wasn’t on the list. He said, “You’re an intelligent guy. You should be able to read between the lines.” Turns out they couldn’t write me up as I dealt directly with the Navy, and it might have been bad politics to write me up. Especially for that. Since they couldn’t write me up, they couldn’t write up the amateur gun smith. I went down to talk to him. He looked around to be certain we were alone and said, “Yeah, they talked to me too. God, this place sucks.” I mention this because the liberalism anti-gun stuff is widespread and omnipresent.
