It has been estimated that the human brain has the capacity to memorize something on the order of 10 billion bits of information during the average human lifetime ...

This seems a bit less incredible if you consider the brain has perhaps 10 times that many neurons and a trillion or so connections between neurons.

Any statement about the brain that begins with "It has been estimated" needs careful checking. I don't think anyone could say exactly what this statement means.

The hell with it. All of your posts are banging out almost common sense and exactly what has been running through my mind. I have to be honest here. The inspiration for this came from sitting in church ( I am a catholic ) and dismissing science during the homily.I am talking on so many levels here. From who we really are to why we can not have human cloning. Well I started to bury myself deep in this the last week really and the only conclusion I could come to is that this is an extreme possibility that deserves to be looked into more or talked about more because I have a perception that we would not have the technology and the ability to clone in our hands right now if we were not meant to find literally something we are supposed to.

This could be it...

I concur, lest I admit that my Western Digital is 32 times "smarter" than me (although I bet some people assess that as a given).

The speed of light isn’t constant.

How the heck did you draw that conclusion from this article?

Break out that ping list....hhahaahaha...it is gonna get crazy in here when the biblical chapter of FR gets on this one.

The speed of light has nothing to do with anything important. Everything that moves has speed. Light is part of the electromegnetic spectrum which, in turn, is part of something else. It was very foolish to assume that light speed could not be surpassed. Records are made to be broken. Nothing is what it seems to be, especially on the cosmological level.

You think?

"University of London physicist David Bohm, for example, believes Aspect's findings imply that objective reality does not exist..."

...From the standpoint of a scientific materialist.

Which is what believers have been saying anyway.

This is a cool article, basically giving credence to "spooky action at a distance" theory.

Wanna see another example...?

(((ping))))

Did you feel the Universe vibrate?

Thank you so much for your post! And thank you for explaining your reasoning about existence.

I also am drawn to such discussions and I also know of a certainty that God is. The truth of His Word has been underlined in my life on many occasions, so I never get anxious over the science v religion debates.

If you are interested, here’s my view on reality so far:

As Einstein said in Relativity, space does not pre-exist, it is a quality of the extension of field. Or, as others might prefer to understand it, space is created as the universe inflates, i.e. the universe doesn’t exist within space.

Likewise, as Einstein observed, time is also a quality of the extension of field. To the observer, time moves slower near massive objects due to gravity. If an object were able to move faster than the speed of light, it would be moving backwards in time.

Space and time are coupled in relativity, so time distortions are also space distortions – aka space/time.

So what is the import of this to me? To explain, I’ll borrow some numbers from Dr. Gerald Shroeder’s website Age of the Universe.

There was nothing physical at all when God, who is - and who is not made up of anything physical - created light. The light had two natures, corpuscular and wave, and by extending, light manifested space/time and more.

I believe the scientists today would call that an inflationary model. The only observer was God. And in a unit of measure God later defined as a ‘day’ – the universe expanded to a size that observers on (gravity-rich) earth would say took a total of 8 billion years. If you follow the table at the bottom of the website, the numbers add up to 15.75 billion years from an earth-observers’ perspective – but 6 days from God’s perspective.

Because light was more than just a wave (photons) - the intensity of the event (aka Big Bang) was enormous and physical and virtual subatomic particles were proliferated. Matter and anti-matter exploded in bursts of radiation. The intellectually-ordered distribution of this creating process yielded the universe we observe now, i.e. net gain of matter, specific surviving particles, orbits, nature, etc.

To me, the energy and momentum of the first event was never lost in the physical sense. For instance, a fly in a car is moving at a speed, which is added to the speed of the car, which is added to the rotation of the earth on its axis, which is added to the earth’s orbit around the sun, which is added to the solar system’s movement in the galaxy which is added to the inflation of the universe. And that’s just the fly. The individual subatomic particle within that fly are really moving. All of this energy and momentum dovetails into a space/time the 3 spatial coordinates we assign for the location of a thing.

So what about these other dimensions? The 5D Space Time Matter Consortium is a group of physicists and astronomers working on a 5-dimensional version of general relativity. Our work differs from Kaluza-Klein theory (the basis of superstrings) in that we do not assume compactification of the extra dimension. This means that new terms (those involving the 5th coordinate) enter into physics, even at low energies. In 4D spacetime these can be interpreted as matter and energy. We move them to the right-hand side of the 4D field equations and take them to describe an induced energy-momentum tensor. In fact, we have shown that no 5D energy-momentum tensor is required. 4D matter of all kinds can arise as a manifestation of a higher-dimensional vacuum. This is one way to realize Einstein's dream of transmuting the "base wood" of matter into the "pure marble" of geometry -- that is, of unifying the gravitational field, not just with other fields, but with its source as well. “

In fact, the Big Bang according to their theory (which has no relationship to any religious doctrine) – could be the result of a Higher Dimensional Shock Wave Naturally, I wonder if God saying ‘Let there be light’ could be the higher dimensional shock wave… hmmm

In the above #31, I’d observe there is no real distance between the two offspring of the split photon.

So does our physical ‘reality’ actually exist in my view? I’d say, no. If you could add it all up together, the total would be zero. But it is a persistent, confounding manifestation. And within that manifestation, things which have being can be blind-folded so they can be nurtured, i.e. spirit, soul, mind. It is also a terrific way of confounding the wise, scientist and layman alike.

So what is existence to me? God.

The problem with this feat is that it violates Einstein's long-held tenet that no communication can travel faster than the speed of light.

I don't think this is correct. Mass can't accelerate to a speed faster than light but he says nothing about massless information.

I didn't draw that conclusion from this article. I had a debate with the person I posted to a while back and used the small notation [in this article] to continue backing up my argument. It was in reference to paradigm shifts, and I used Einstein and Freud as examples, neither of which he accepted. =)

" if the brain is holographic, and the universe is also finely holographically connected, is the universe then a brain?"

If snow is white, and the piece of paper in front of me is also white, is the piece of paper then snow?

Your premises may be correct, your conclusion may even be correct, but this logic is severely flawed. . . .

Einstein IS in trouble. The speed of light isn’t constant.

The fact that the speed of light is constant in space predates Einstein. Michelson and Morley determined this by experimentation in 1887.

The electrons in a carbon atom in the human brain are connected to the subatomic particles that comprise every salmon that swims, every heart that beats, and every star that shimmers in the sky.

AND THE JEOPARDY QUESTION IS :What is it all about, the meaning of life, the universe, everything ?

Michelson and Morley determined this by experimentation in 1887.

The report to their sponsor, A. Graham Bell, indicates the results were inconclusive.

You might want to take a gander at these threads before commenting upon the speed of light:

Even if they are massless, photons, the particles of electromagnetic radiation are limited by the speed of light. It has been conjectured that we may perceive the universe to be artificially large.
