Here we go again. Sen. Daschle and Sen. Leahy wish to have big fun at our nation's expense. They also wish to paint themselves with a brush that Democrats don't ever want to be seen as – racist! What do they have against Latinos in America? Why do they wish the Hispanic and Latino communities to rise up against them and throw them out of office? I don't have the answers to these questions, but if they don't get moving, they will not be able to stop the backlash. The reason? Mr. Miguel Estrada.

Mr. Estrada was nominated 11 months ago to serve on the appellate court for Washington, D.C. In an amazing 11 months the Senate has yet to grant him a hearing. At a time in which our nation desperately needs to be boosting the caliber and number of justices serving the courts, Daschle and Leahy continue to play their political games.

Mr. Estrada is as qualified a judge as any who has come along in recent years. He has nearly double the legal experience of the average nominee. He is broadly supported by individuals and groups from both parties. He would also be the first Hispanic ever nominated to the federal court, and who knows – he may be the right stuff to end up being the first Hispanic on the U.S. Supreme Court.

But first things first. Sens. Daschle and Leahy are at it again – holding the justice system captive – without regard to the needs of the American people.

There has been a record number of judicial vacancies and only three Bush nominees confirmed. When the shoe was on the other foot, it was a different story. Clinton nominees, in almost record numbers, were appointed and confirmed. Our justice system is the worse for it today, but the hearings and the confirmations went on nonetheless.

Even a Clinton administration Justice Department official has said about Estrada, "He has a near encyclopedic knowledge of the law, a powerful intellect and an ability to bring coherence to even the most complicated legal doctrine."

Oooooooo, Mr. Daschle, he sounds so scary! (At least to those who don't believe in the rule of law.)

But why would Daschle and Leahy run the risk not only of continuing to damage our legal system but also of looking racist? This is a problematic position for them – and one that makes no sense. Do they actually wish to keep America's most qualified Hispanic judge beaten down? A solid case could be made against them that says yes.

Mr. Estrada's story itself is worth admiration. As a teen-ager he immigrated from Honduras. He knew no one. He knew none of the language. He had nothing of material value.

Learning English on his own, he fulfilled the entire educational spectrum. Eventually he graduated from Columbia College with top honors. That was soon chased by an encore honors performance at Harvard Law School.

He has served as clerk to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. He has served as an assistant U.S. attorney. He has served as an assistant U.S. solicitor general in both the Bush and Clinton administrations.

As if all of that were not enough, he has successfully argued 10 cases before the Supreme Court.

President George W. Bush said when he nominated Mr. Estrada: "Every judge I appoint will be a person who clearly understands the role of a judge is to interpret the law, not to legislate from the bench. To paraphrase James Madison, the courts exist to exercise not the will of men, but the judgment of law. My judicial nominees will know the difference."

Daschle frequently states his support for our president and the effort he now finds himself up against in ridding the world of terror. The trials that will stem from our war on terror alone should be motivation for Daschle to put country first and personal ambition second, but unfortunately, Daschle is a foolish, foolish man.

His drive to be president, his persistence in trying to thwart the legitimate rule of this administration, his open cowardice at not being able to face the job he has are reasons enough to demonstrate why he should not be our nation's highest elected official.

But the question is will it stop?

Suddenly the need to elect people like Jim Durkin in Illinois as the newest senator (and throw out the likes of Dick Durbin, who also has his fingers in this muck) becomes overwhelmingly apparent.

Daschle won't go away. Therefore, he must be removed – and without delay. Every Senate race must have crystal clarity as to why the right people must be elected.

What can you do? Pray, campaign, engage, and stay in the fight. America needs you now more than ever!

Are Daschle and Leahy biased against successful Latino judges who make consistently good decisions in favor of the rule of law and the families of America? Judging from their treatment of Miguel Estrada, how could it be argued otherwise?

Miguel is a person friend of mine. He has an incredible mind and a quick wit. His wife is also an attorney who works on the hill (Republican). He has extensive experience arguing before the Supreme Court in his capacity as a former Assistant Solicitor General, and he works in Ted Olson's firm. By the way, Miguel wrote the brief in support of Bush on the petition for certiorari that got the case before the Supreme Court. Please keep him in your prayers. He is one of a kind.

Ah, little grasshopper, there is no danger of that. The Democrats just get their Latino activist cronies to start parroting the line that Estrada is not a real Hispanic, because he is "wrong on their issues", perhaps tossing out the phrase "a Hispanic Bork", and then they suffer no backlash at all.

Latinos are the new political battleground. Many Cubans who switched after the Elian Gonzales incident may have been the deciding factor in the Florida elections of 2000.

LULAC. the League of United Latin American Citizens has a few good things on its platform, but also has some liberal crap like affirmative action and no militarizing the border too. I've emailed all their officials about this and other stuff. They are going to have a national convention in Houston June 23-29. Invited guest speakers include Shelia Jackson Lee, Tom Daschle, and candidate Tony Sanchez. But it also has invited Tom Ridge, Spencer Abraham, Laura Bush, and possibly even President Bush. Vicente Fox is a confirmed speaker.

Pulaski, how can you argue that affirmative action is a liberal program. Colin Powell, our Secretary of State, championed this fine program before thousands of people at the GOP Convention. The problem with Estrada, and the reason so few Hispanics are behind his candidacy, has to do with the composition of the Supreme Court. Recently, Hispanics have been outraged, and outspoken, against the 5-4 Supreme Court decision denying illegal immigrants the right to unionize. Hispanics realize that the five who voted against Hispanics are GOP sympathizers, and will do anything to ensure that another ultraconservative isn't appointed to the Supreme Court. If you watch Univision and Telemundo, you perceive the outrage. Estrada is not friendly to Hispanic interests, and it is to their credit that Democrats have yet to have a hearing on his nomination.

The RaceCard. The GOP will lose every time they attempt to use the race card against the Dems. Note the recent Supreme Court decision that disenfranchised Hispanics looking to unionize. The decision was 5-4, with the 5 voting for disenfranchisement affiliated with the GOP.

Dear President Bush,
With the Surpeme Court session getting ready to close, it may well be time for perhaps the most important domestic decision of your presidency: the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice(s). The main reason why I supported you in 2000 and why I wanted Daschle out of power in 02 (and 04) has to do with the courts. I want America courts to interpret law, not write law. During your presidential campaign you said Thomas and Scalia were your two model justices. Those are excellent models. The High Court needs more like them. Clarence Thomas recently said to students that the tough cases were when what he wanted to do was different from what the law said. And he goes by the law. This should be a model philosophy for our justices. Your father, President Bush lost his reelection campaign for 3 main reasosn, as far as I can see. 1. he broke the no new taxes pledge 2. David Souter 3. Clinton convinced people we were in a Bush recession (which we had already come out of by the time Clinton was getting sworn in)

I urge you to learn from all three of these: 1. on taxes, you're doing great. Awesome job on the tax cut. 2. good job so far on judicial appointments. I want to see more of a fight for Estrada, Owen, and Pickering, but I commend you on your nominations. 3. by staying engaged in the economic debate you'll serve yourself well

I have been thoroughly impressed with your handling of al Queida, Iraq, and terrorism. You have inspired confidence and have shown great leadership.

But I want to remind you that your Supreme Court pick(s) will be with us LONG after you have departed office. I urge you to avoid the tempation to find a "compromise" pick. Go for a Scalia or Thomas. Don't go for an O'Connor or Kennedy. To be specific, get someone who is pro-life. Roe v Wade is one of the worst court decisions I know of, and it's the perfect example of unrestrained judicial power.

I know the temptation will be tremendous on you to nominate a moderate. But remember who your true supporters are. I am not a important leader or politician. I am "simply" a citizen who has been an enthusiatic supporter of you. I am willing to accept compromise in many areas of government but I will watch your Court nomiantions extremely closely. What the Senate Dems are doing right now is disgusting, but as the President you have the bully pulpit to stop it. Democrats will back down if you turn up serious heat on them.

Moreover, I think public opinion is shifting towards the pro-life position. Dems will want you to nominate a moderate, but almost all will vote against you anyways. Pro-choice Repubs will likely still vote for you if you nominate a Scalia, after all, you campaigned on it. So Mr. President, I urge you to stick with your campaign statements and nominate justices who believe in judicial restraint, like Scalia and Thomas.
