Catholic Church said to be struggling to keep homosexuals out

The head of the US episcopal conference Wilton Daniel Gregory said there was an ongoing struggle within the Catholic Church to ensure that the priesthood is not "dominated by homosexual men".

Gregory and Chicago Archbishop, Cardinal Francis George, told reporters that the issue of homosexual priests had been discussed in a solemn morning meeting between Pope John Paul II and US cardinals on the issue of paedophile priests.

"It is an ongoing struggle. It is most importantly a struggle to make sure that the Catholic priesthood is not dominated by homosexual men," Gregory told a news conference after the first session of talks which are to last until Wednesday.

"Not only that it is not dominated by homosexual men, but that the candidates we receive are healthy in every possible way, psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually."

"That is the ongoing concern of seminaries."

struggling to keep homosexuals out

Who is kidding who? The Church grows their own!

I know a "gay" man , he told me he wasn't gay until he entered a monastery as a teen to study to be a priest.

Sure it is. There are still many celibate homosexual priests out there.

"Catholic Church" money was involved in that? How? I am actually interested to know about this.

I'm not a catholic, so am probably not the best guy to ask. But I would hope that a non-practicing & repentant homosexuals would still be as welcome as anyone in the priesthood.

I'm not Catholic either, but that was what I would have thought. However, I am not getting that impression from a lot of people here - that's why I asked... A non-practicing repentant homosexual is still a homosexual, right?

Yes. Theoretically, some would argue that prayer and God's intervention might lift such an affliction. I'll take a guess that some Catholic clergymen have thought this. There seem to be some people who have such an inordinate and compulsive tendency toward sexual deviancy that they appear to be beyond ascetic continence.

Remember all those people who said homosexuality doesn't hurt anyone? Well it is hurting about 600 million catholics.

"That is the ongoing concern of seminaries."

Yes, but who controls the seminaries? The seminaries in my diocese are churning out homosexual priests. Who is in control? I believe it is the bishop. Here, the bishop is gay, as is my pastor and his associate. This past Sunday, the pastor advised the parishioners that we would be "blessed" with the presence of a seminarian during the summer months.

I'm not a betting person but I'd wager that he, too, will be a homosexual. Sigh!

I am no "religionist." I just don't ridicule others for their beliefs, even atheists. It's funny how "intolerant" some atheists can be...

Why do you even care? You don't think Catholics have a right to choose their own priests? Insults don't make good arguments. Your ridicule only makes you look bad.

I have never heard of such abuses by the Catholic Church, nor witnessed them. We even chipped in to help our parish priest to get a car. The priests at my University never showed such abundance. Where do you get these tales?

I'll try to dig up some of the documents. Cardinal Medeiros wrote a letter to the Vatican in 1979 which detailed the organized nature of the homosexual subculture invading seminaries then (i.e., 1979). The Catholic League details a textbook used in some Catholic seminaries questioning church teaching on homosexuality. There has been, for quite a number of years, an organized homosexual movement in the Church in the U.S. Organizations like "Dignity" and "Call to Action" are two examples. EWTN has actually shown video clips of "Call to Action" conferences in the past. In addition to the usual outrages, feminist lesbian nuns have done such things as conducted their own liturgies. Crisis magazine has featured articles on the subject of homosexuals in seminaries. Richard Neuhaus, editor of FIRST THINGS in New York has written about the homosexual subculture in the current issue. There is the recent book by Michael Rose (Goodbye! Good Men). I have personally witnessed a priest questioning the church's teaching on homosexuality. And I have had former seminarians tell me stories (in conversation) Micahel Novak was on FOX tonight talking about it.

Your posts are so on target! God bless you!

Raymond Arroyo and his program on EWTN have covered "Call to Action" and all sorts of blasphemous conferences. Also, rcf.org may have some resources regarding the moneys used by the lavendar mafia in the Church.

Follow the link. It will have a place to click on to get a report from the editor (Deal Hudson). The most recent e-newsletter details some issues on the subject.

Granted, when The Wanderer, Crisis, First Things, The Remnant, National Review, EWTN, The New Oxford Review, Richard Neuhaus, Deal Hudson, Michael Novak, AND Richard McBrien and Garry Wills, as well as the SSPX, all agree (that there has been a "gay invasion" of the priesthood), it can seem....a little weird.

In theory, a "celibate homosexual" is OK. In practice, try to find one.
