Before you attack what you think are a person's beliefs, make sure they believe it. If you are going to beat up a strawman, you don't need me to hold it for you.

What the hell does it matter anyway? We were told since we were born that any male was far more preferable to a female in the Catholic Church and the priesthood. The pervert shuffle performed by the "all male club" made sure the protective all male circle was never broken. It is time the women of the church stood up and called on the boneheads to step aside. How dare they put our children at risk? I am disgusted my the poor choices made over and over by these pompous old jades.

Twist and turn all you like, and point the finger of blame at the Torah. You formulated that rotten little post of yours, and what you wrote was out of line.

"I wonder if you follow Leviticus to the letter, or if you cherry pick the Stone Age prohibitions that best fit your agenda?"

Homosexuality is also denounced in Paul's letter to the Romans, and so unlike other OT prosciptions this particular vice transends covenants.

I don't see how this discussion concerns you inasmuch as you are obviously not a Christian. Is it merely a lame attempt to mock God?

Leviticus 12

1 The LORD said to Moses,

2 "Say to the people of Israel, If a woman conceives, and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days; as at the time of her menstruation, she shall be unclean.

3 And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

4 Then she shall continue for thirty-three days in the blood of her purifying; she shall not touch any hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying are completed.

5 But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.

If you aren't an Orthodox Jew, why do you care what it says?

"...a struggle to make sure that the Catholic priesthood is not dominated by homosexual men," Gregory told a news conference ..."

Well,uh, excuse me, but isn't there a document from the beginning of Vatican II, in 1961, that says homosexual men can't be ordained in the firstplace? And if they aren't ordained in the first place, ie, if the magisterium is followed correctly, then the head of the NCCB wouldn't be struggling so "to make sure that the Catholic priesthood is not dominated by homosexual men."

Is it just me or does Bishop Gregory sound downright absurd? His statement implies another... 'gee willikers, its ok as long as they don't dominate' while he winks at the Vatican document.

His double talk is an implication in itself.

No. I'll explain. Suppose someone announced that cripples were despicable people. Why? you might fairly inquire.

Well, comes the reply, L. Ron Hubbard says so in the 3rd book of his Scientology chronicles.

The next logical step in the debate is to focus on the text cited as authority...to question the consistency of its application, its timeliness, and common sense value.

Still twisting and turning, and not taking responsibility for misusing the Torah and taking a swipe at AppyPappy's family.

Matt 5:28 But, "But I say unto you, That whoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultyery with her already in his heart" The Lord was equally concerned with the thoughts and emotions of man as well as his deeds. Sin proceeds from the mind... to be struggling with such things..puts one in a frame of character that has no business being a teacher or preacher or minister in a trusted position. In other words if someone is struggling with such issues and wished to work with children or those transitory-emotionally dependent find another line of work.Character among leaders was of paramount importance once upon a time in the church. Penchants for the bizarre not withstanding. From James : "Let not many of you become teachers." Click Here

The really key factor, which was noted in Cardinal Medeiros' 1979 letter to the Vatican on the subject, is the way they band together in a mafia-like network. The network functions to circumvent regulations, to gain control of finances and positions of leadership and power, and discriminate against heterosexuals and orthodox and conservative Catholics who oppose their agenda and lifestyle. Their ultimate goal is obviously to overturn church teachings on sexuality and to use offices of the church to promote a political agenda favorable to homosexuals while they are not using leisure travel, and five-star gourmet dining events, a hallmark of gay subculture and socializing. A thorough audit of church finances should be conducted to expose these abuses of church funds.

I never think about Leviticus at all, except when I come onto FR and see people making appeals to its authority to back their positions.

Your observations are spot on! Bishop Gregory and Cardinal George are both part of the problem IMO.

the Torah

You mean the Old Testament? I'm glad that fundamentalists are ditching the Old Testament -- what with all that gobbledygook about creationism and prohibiting mixed threads and killing homosexuals. It's about time.

The misuse of church funds to finance extracurricular activities by homosexual priests is going to be the next phase of the scandal. Where has the money gone?

"There is a device which monitors the dilation of the pupils in response to a series of sexually suggestive pictures. I can't remember the proper name for it, but the RCMP called it the "Fruit Machine" when they used it to screen out homosexual security risks in sensitive government jobs."

Well, thank God from whom all good things come! Lets get these fruit machines into the seminaries on the double! LOL!

For all I know AppyPappy has no family. I was quoting from the same book of the Bible.

You have that victim song and dance down to a tee. Maybe I can pay you both some reparations and we'll have a beer and forget the whole ridiculous thing.
