Deputy suspended over illicit gun

6/22/2002

An Orleans County sheriff's deputy was suspended from her job after she was accused of having an unregistered weapon, authorities said Friday. Amy Christ, 31, was charged by State Police with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon. A member of the Sheriff's Department since 1997, she was suspended with pay.

According to authorities, Christ had filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband, after which both were ordered to surrender all the weapons in their home. It turned out one of the weapons - which reportedly belongs to Christ's brother - never had been registered.

Christ was released on an appearance ticket returnable July 13 in Albion Village Court.

A great example of how firearm registration helps catch criminals and reduce crime.

Way to go, New York! I'm sure your citizens will sleep a little better tonight knowing this criminal has been caught.

She sounds like a total loser. Being a law enforcement officer, she should have known that filing a domestic violence complaint would involve firearm confiscation. Now, I'm wondering, does this confiscation include here service pistol? And if not, what is the point of the firearm confiscation anyway?

THe lesson to be learned here: don't let your wife know about your fireams just in case she decides to call the cops after an agument some day.

I gave two of handguns to my brother for $300. We live in the state of Utah. I didn't register the handguns in his name. Does this mean I could get in trouble too? Or is this just a socialist New York thing?

Sorry to hear that you LOST those guns. It must have been an unhappy moment.

In the Peoples Republic of New York to own a handgun it must be "registered" with the "proper authorities". That is not to carry, but to OWN one. There is no right to self protection in the Peoples Republic of New York.

Lying and hiding things from your spouse will have the exact opposite affect you are espousing. She will be even more likely to believe the cops are necessary to win the argument. If you have to lie and hide things, you shouldn't be married.

Wives don't need to know about every detail of firearms, in fact, in most cases, they don't even want to know every detail. Do you really think the average wife cares if you have 5 firearms or if you have 6 firearms?

To register your "'throw down'" gun kind of defeats the purpose.....seems to me.

Do you have to "register" handguns in Utah?
In the home of John Browning?
