[history]
So far this year, 10 Detroit-area children were killed by guns. How can we, as a community and a state, stop this rising tide of gun violence?
Other communities that have stood at the dangerous intersection of young people and guns provide a good lesson. The similarities between school shootings in Littleton, Colo., and Erfurt, Germany, are striking -- troubled kids, access to guns and unbearable tragedy. Even more striking: the difference between the two countries' responses.

I know one real well. Lives in Weston, Mass., in a 2-mill house. Went to Harvard, speaks Russian, worked for CIA has one uber childe. Totally clueless. Thinks I'm a bad guy (Im just ultra basic and fail to purchase che-che products) I had her in a pristine, faux, 5-dollar beer bar on Nantucket. She thought the clientele was a little rough. I thought they were Andover prep nancy boy types. Naturally she voted Clinton, Gore, et al.

By the way does she have the stats for child death (1) by automobile (2) swimming pools and (3) bicycles in the same time period? I'm willing to bet that the numbers were much more than 10.

Ever notice how strong the correlation is between women who hyphenate their surnames, like Donna Dees-Thomasas, and a confused mental state?Another example...Rodham-Clowntoon..case closed, commit all hyphenated moms!!!

And how is it that these socialist biddies excrete their anti-gun platitudes on behalf of "the children" while simultaneously screeching for limit-free abortion - the ultimate act of violence against a child? You bring up an interesting, and valid point. How many children were killed by abortion, in the city of Detroit, during the same time period? More than 10, perhaps?
Keep running those numbers, Dumma Dee-Thomas!

I could buy that, if more republicans in office had spines... I'm not holding my breath, though, but I WILL be holding their feet to the fire... The biggest threat by far - aside from an outright loss of majority, would be a carefully-timed inflammatory incident. Anybody want to start a pool on when the assault-weapon-related multiple shootings will occur?

They think (or want to put forward to their readers) that "regular" people don't like guns and that "regular" people aren't in the fight on the Pro-Gun side. Go back and look at how the whole of her opposition is funded/backed/supported/led by wealthy gun manufacturers etc.. If the word ever got out that millions of regular folk own and operate guns they would be done. But the media won't print/broadcast that little gem.

Remember that the attempted repeal of the Assault Weapons Ban in 1996 sailed through the House of Reps back in 1996 something like 280-140. But they never were able to bring it to a vote in the Senate and Klintonista would have vetoed it anyways unless there was a 2/3 majority. By the way, that's why so many laws are passed and so few repealed. The veto gives the President too much power. Not consistent with the checks and balances theory in my opinion.

So far this year, 10 Detroit-area children were killed by guns Of course, the part of that statement that they don't tell is how many of those 10 "children" were actually gang-bangers that would have killed/been killed regardless of whatever "gun control" thrown at them.

tep - and I posted first without reading the whole thread (where the subject was already beaten to death) So I guess we're even... :)

Yes, well the thing the Republicans should have done would have been to exempt from the ban all firearms which only fire one shot per trigger pull and cannot be modified to fire more (using the same definition as 'machine gun'), as well as accoutremants (slings, magazines, etc.) for such firearms.

Not going to happen, there is no karma in central Michigan. She, they, are looking at Sedona. Something about crystals, convergent earth aura. I forget, drink beer and eat steak. Naturally, they put up with me.

Dr. Joyce Malcom, a history professor at Bentley College in (of all places) Waltham, MA, has recently published a book via the Harvard University Press titled "Guns and Violence".
In her book she documents that water is 19 times more dangerous to a child than a firearm. In 1996, 805 children died from accidental drownings, and 42 died from firearms accidents.
This is from a column in this weeks Washington Times Weekly edition (August 5 - 11, 2002) on page 32 by Paul Craig Roberts.

Their only view is banning guns. Period. Commies through and through.
