According to a website sponsored by Asia Travel Mart, bathrooms throughout Asia do not use modern flush mechanisms. According to the website, "A bucket and ladle serve an integral role in both bathing and toiletry."

Having lived in Asia for 5 years, I can honestly say that a bucket and ladle are luxuries in many places. More often, a stinkin' hole in the floor, with two foot pads on either side is the norm.

I can understand why these whackos oppose flush toilets -- since flush toilets aymbolize the appropriate accommodation for their Sustainable Povery policy documents.

Actually, I live in an apartment and my landlord was required to replace my showerhead with one that sprays less water. It's a piece of crap. I probably take longer showers now because I need more time to rinse the shampoo out of my hair.

Ah, yes, the "UN Earth Summit", a forum where the Greenie Weenies and the Loony Left can voice their neverending
hate for the human race and complete ignorance of basic science. Some things NEVER change.

For those of us who live in cities, this would be a huge mess.

Already happening. Look at San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and possibly other cities. Street peeing is a dramatic problem.

Perhaps we should all learn to make "catholes" as detailed in the Boy Scout Handbook? Use leaves to clean ourselves, too. (Left hand only, please)

While I love nature, and enjoy experiencing it responsibly, I like modern conveniences quite a bit. For the Summiteers to suggest that flushing toilets are a bad thing, it shows where their heads are at.

And considering the topic of discussion, one flush should give 'em a swirly!

Our kids are taught in the Marxist public schools: "20% of the world consumes 80% of its resources!" That may be true, but what's left unsaid is that 20% of the world CREATES 80% of its wealth, and Marxists don't think people should be able to enjoy what they create.

We live in the country and my kids (they are all boys) rarely use the inside toilet, unless it is dinner time or bedtime. when they are outside during the day, my wife catches them using the woods all the time. Does that make my family a bunch of lefty tree huggers like the Earth Summiteers?

No, it makes them a bunch of Red Necks,, just like my crew. No easier way to potty train a little boy than to teach him to go outside,,,, just like daddy. Of course it helps if you live in the wilderness, like I do. And it takes tons of "retraining" before they go to school.

Not sure what your shower head is, but often you can open them up and take out the blocking device.

These environmentalist wackos are trying to put us back a thousand years...they're nuts!

If they keep Africans poor and underdeveloped, they keep their movement alive.

Much of this "consumption" is nothing of the sort - water isn't a non-renewable resource. Typically in the West flush water leads to a sewage plant, wherein what happens? The sewage is separated out and the water is returned to the environment. You'd think this would be a Greenie's dream, but noooooo...

This is nothing more than guilt-mongering, and it's quite a stretch at that. It stems from the fundamentally Marxist economic assumptions that anything one group has that is better than that possessed by another is so by virtue of theft, that natural resources, like any other wealth, are a zero-sum game and that it is the duty of government to see that they are evenly distributed. These assumptions are false.

"Lomborg, once a committed member of Greenpeace, became disillusioned with the green movement because of what he considered its distortion of eco-science. He said people who bemoan the flush toilet are typical of the Green movement's 'tendency to focus on stuff that looks easy.'"

I just picked Lomborg's book, "The Skeptical Environmentalist." It's full of studies that debunk most environmental junk science.

For example, he points out that in the past 30 years the economy has doubled in size but major air pollutant emissions have been cut by one-third! He cites lie after lie that the greens repeat daily despite evidence to the contrary. I highly recommend it.

I'm a proud SUV driving, consuming American who happens to use and enjoy using the "evil" flush toilet. I also like eating tasty dead meat, and really could care less if we save the spotted owl(unless it is tasty on the grill). I guess I'm the environmentalist' worst nightmare.

Put in your own regular showerhead and replace it with the low-flow one when you move out...

the greens are not really interested in helping the poor African so much as sentencing him to eternal suffering.

And eternal dependence upon the developed nations (or the U.N.) for food, shelter and medical care, instead of the means to make themselves self-sufficient.
