While I was never openly hostile toward Officer Moose I was not particularly supportive either..and I certainly had my doubts. My apologies and a humble thank you to him and all the people in the field who are working on the sniper case...You have done a good job and all of us are grateful....Three cheers to all!

I understand Chief Moose holds a PHD.
Just think if he'd been an elected Republican official; every democRat in the country would've been openly and wildly attesting to his stupidity and ineptness.

I couldn't believe all the less-than-perceptive skeptics here who couldn't see past the stupid press conferences enough to realize that "Mr. Sniper we would like to talk to you some more but couldn't decipher your last message" junk was really an effort to get a slip-up from the terrorists ala "Mr. Sniper you didn't stay on the phone long enough last time for our tracing equipment to complete, would you please call back so we can try again"! Sometimes people are REALLY dense.

I think he was playing the bumpkin role perfectly--and it worked perfectly.
BRAVO ZULU, Chief Moose!

Moose did A-OK. He played his part as well as anyone could have.

Barf. Yeah it was good to keep talking, but they failed to release composites, the description of the 1990 car in the second shooting and the letters and handwriting.
Also the officer failed to run a check when he found them sleeping on Oct 8.
They screwed up a lot of stuff. I agree with Pat Brown and the dective on Fox this morning that witholding info may cost 4 - 8 lives that did not need to be lost.

Good for you - I think he did great, too.

A Phd that was hand picked by Janet Reno and bill clinton for his job!
To: fooman
Dont get me wrong. I am glad that they were caught so that more people would not die. I just think that we should avoid gloating, when MUCH could be improved about this investigation and they were caught in spite of errors committed.

Moose was a puppet spokesman for the investigation.
The sniper got caught because of tip called into the tip hot line...not because of Mooses PhD.
The fact remains that he was a POLITICALLY ANNOINTED and appointed police chief.
I'm glad this whole thing seems to be over so Moose can fade into obscurity and irrevelancy...the whole investigation was a circus.

I'm in your corner on this one.
The LEOs did finally catch this guy, but I think it would have been sooner if law enforcement in general didn't believe that releasing pertinent information would "hinder the investigation"
If what I heard is true, that they had names of suspects almost a week ago, they should have released photos then.

The sniper got caught because of tip called into the tip hot line...not because of Mooses PhD. The tipper's name is Mr. Lanz (or Lantz -- I didn't get the first name). I just saw him interviewed on CNN.
So, does Mr. Lanz get the reward? How much is it?
To: fooman
Oh, yes, we experts here on Free Republic could have done a MUCH better job than the experts working for law enforcement. Give me a break. This armchair quarterbacking has just gone too far.

How long until we see Moose on Leno and Letterman? BWHAHAHAHAHA!
Or Oprah!
To: Ispy4u
Should have this, could have that. Where is YOUR degree in serial homicide investigations from?
To: my_pointy_head_is_sharp
I hope they play the Lanz interview again. I didn't see the whole thing.
To: my_pointy_head_is_sharp
He's on right now! CNN.
