Wichita doctor to provide abortions for free

Wichita — Dr. George Tiller will provide free abortions for poor women Saturday to mark the 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

Anti-abortion groups said Sunday they planed to protest when Tiller provided the free, first-trimester abortions for Medicaid recipients at his Women's Health Care Services clinic in Wichita.

Tiller said in a news release that he hoped the free abortions would draw attention to the increasing pressure being placed on abortion rights.

Tiller has made similar offers in the past to mark the anniversary of the Jan. 22, 1973, Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. Last January, he provided free abortions to protest a policy that allows federal money to cover the cost of abortion for a low-income woman only when a pregnancy threatens her life or is a result of rape or incest.

Donna Lippoldt, the administrator of Operation Save America-Wichita, said Tiller was not benevolent and made millions of dollars performing abortions. The group protests Tiller's clinic almost daily, offering medical and child care, baby supplies and other services to women considering abortion.

She said the anti-abortion group, along with many Wichita churches, would have a larger protest Saturday "just to let George know we won't fall for his pranks."

Tiller has been the focus of anti-abortion groups because he is one of the few physicians in the country who performs late-term abortions. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and he was shot in both arms by an abortion protester in 1993.

What kind of message is he sending, "If you take the risk and get pregnant, I can help you kill the innocent baby, even late in the pregnancy, just so you wont have to go through the adoption procedure"? He needs to be shut down, and people need to realize that what he's doing is a moral crime, legal or not.

Tiller Botches Abortion

Wichita, Kansas- For the second time in as many weeks notorious abortionist George Tiller botched a late-term abortion. Ambulances and paramedics arrived shortly after 7:30am this morning with sirens blowing full steam. An unconscious woman strapped to a gurney was speedily driven to the emergency room of Wesley Hospital.

The victim is in serious condition and her unborn baby is presumed dead. Abortionist Tiller emerged from the operating room of Wesley Hospital visibly shaken at approximately 10:30am, yet he returned immediately to his abortion mill and resumed his noxious abortion trade. Friday afternoon is a "big ‘procedure’ day," says a source close to Tiller.

Operation Rescue West is calling upon the Kansas Medical Board to begin a full scale investigation of this incident. Furthermore, we demand that they revoke Tiller’s license to kill helpless babies. Please also pray for the victim and her family.

When I lived in Minneapolis, a local activist group waas trying to shut down a porn theater by videotaping the patrons. The RedStar-Tribune covered the theate owner's whining about the dropoff in his business, though I don't remember if he ever shut down completely. I wonder if that would work at Tiller's clinic.
