Are Liberals really Liberal?????? as the word "LIBERAL is defined. We should stop calling them Liberals when Being liberal it seems to me by it's definition of has nothing to do with anything they stand for. Leftist would be more suitable. liberal [lbrl, lbrl] adj. 1. relating to or having social and political views that favour PROGRESS and REFORM. 2. relating to or having policies or views advocating individual freedom. 3. giving and generous in temperament or behaviour. 4. tolerant of other people. 5. abundant; lavish: a liberal helping of cream. 6. not strict; free: a liberal translation. 7. of or relating to an education that aims to develop general cultural interests and intellectual ability. n. 8. a person who has liberal ideas or opinions. [from Latin liberalis of freedom, from liber free]

For better or worse we are stuck with the current usage of 'liberal'.
It's not so bad, 'Conservative' is a good word. It carries respect for the Constitution, a respect for the average man and his rights, an attitude of responsibility when dealing with the taxpayer's dollars.
Language changes over the years. The principles of right thinking people do not.

I also resent the use of good words like "liberal" and "gay" for the deceitful purposes of the left.
Let's call 'em socialists!

Creation/God...REFORMATION(Judeo-Christianity)---secular-govt.-humanism/SCIENCE---CIVILIZATION!
Originally the word liberal meant social conservatives(no govt religion--none) who advocated growth and progress---mostly technological(knowledge being absolute/unchanging)based on law--reality... UNDER GOD---the nature of GOD/man/govt. does not change. These were the Classical liberals...founding fathers-PRINCIPLES---stable/SANE scientific reality/society---industrial progress...moral/social character-values(private/personal) GROWTH(limited NON-intrusive PC Govt/religion---schools)!
Evolution...Atheism-dehumanism---TYRANNY(pc/liberal/govt-religion/rhetoric)...
Then came the SPLIT SCHIZOPHRENIA/ZOMBIE/BRAVE-NWO1984 LIBERAL NEO-Soviet Darwin/ACLU America---the post-modern age of statist // socialists // progressives ======= stealth liberals (( fake // faux -- 'conservatives' )) !

Excellent point, thanks, I wish we could fund some type of research that studied their brains like we do with serial murderers. So much of what I hear come out of their mouths sounds sociopathic and as if they have no ability to relate to reality.

Let's call 'em socialists! That is the most accurate term. The slow shift from 'classic liberal' to what 'liberal' now means is one of the slickest tricks pulled by the left in recent times.
They don't want to identified for what they really are, compromising communists, (which is what a 'socialist' actually is) so they've identified themselves with this other term. It's just that now 'liberal' basically has come to mean 'socialist' so now they are trying to go back to 'progressive' to better hide their spots.
Time to call them for what they are, communist wannabes - i.e., socialists.
To: repub32
In Europe a "liberal" is one who believes in freedom, including entrepreneurial and economic freedom. Most American liberals would be considered social democrats abroad. And many of our conservatives would be called liberals in Europe.
During the 1930s, words like "socialist" or "social democrat" put voters off, and the "progressive" that went back to Theodore Roosevelt and Robert LaFollette looked outworn and was often appropriated by communists, so committed New Dealers appropriated the liberal label for themselves.
