The Difference between US and Them

US:

In 1994, The Green family with legal and valid passports and visas were on vacation in Italy.

7-year-old Nicholas Green of Bodega Bay, California, was with his parents and sister when the family was set upon by robbers. Shots were fired and young Nicholas was mortally wounded. For two days Nicholas lay in a hospital while the entire nation of Italy watched, waited and prayed. Nicholas did not live, but from the depths of this terrible tragedy came an act of goodness that touched not only all of Italy, but also Nicholas' fellow Americans and people all over the world who had been following the story.

Nicholas' parents, Reg and Maggie Green, knew that their son would have wanted to do whatever he could for others in need. He was that kind of boy. In Italy, as in other nations, many seriously ill people were lying in hospitals, their names on organ transplant waiting lists and their hopes, ironically, pinned to the misfortune that would befall someone else. The Greens knew Nicholas would not have hesitated, and so when the end came, they did not hesitate, either. "There was never any doubt," Reg Green said later. Nicholas' organs were rushed to the waiting recipients.

Seven Italian people received either the gift of life itself or a better quality of life from Nicholas Green. At least five of those people were critically ill at the time.

Organ donors can help as many as 40 people with their organs and tissues. Despite their grief, Nicholas' parents freely donated his organs to countrymen and women from the very same country as those who murdered their son. They didn't hesitate. They knew others could be helped.

Them:

On the other hand, Jesica Santillan's family didn't just "move" here. They came here illegally by paying a coyote $5,000 to smuggle Santillan and her mother across the border for the express purpose of obtaining medical care and circumventing long wait times in her native country.

17 year old Jesica Santillan got onto the transplant waiting list at Duke University Medical center. She needed a transplant because of a heart deformity that kept her lungs from getting oxygen into her blood.

On February 7, 2003, Jesica received a heart-lung transplant. Through a medical misadventure, the organs were not compatible with her body. The US watched waited and prayed. Miraculously, on February 20, she received a SECOND heart-lung transplant.

The illegal alien Santillan family did not pay for either operation, they were funded by a US citizens and others through a non-profit organization called Jesica's Hope Chest, founded by US citizen Mack Mahoney.

America gave so much to the Santillan family. We tolerated their illegal status, raised funds to pay for the operation, possibly bumping and condemning to death an (maybe even TWO) American citizen needing a transplant, preformed the operations, gave them hope that their daughter might live.

When all efforts failed, we mourned with them.

Our reward? The Santillan family refused to donate any of her organs. They would rather they rot in the grave than help a single one of US...

The difference between us and them is the difference between a society where charity is lovingly and compassionately given and a society where charity is enviously and ingratiously taken.

"Donating his organs, then, wasn't a particularly magnanimous act. But not to have given them would have seemed to us such an act of miserliness that we don't believe we could have thought about it later without shame. The future of a radiant little creature had been taken away. It was important to us that someone else should have that future." Reg Green

I think what upsets me most about the Duke case and the sad and tragic death of Jesica is that the family and their handlers are acting as if the doctors set out to murder their child.

I thought about the Greens last week myself. Didn't all the killers get off?

The only thing this illustrates is the difference between one particular family and another particular family.

The Santillan family will also sue Duke University, be independently wealthy scumbags, move back to Mexico and say how f***ed up the USA is.

If you have been following the reports, you know that we have been told that it's their cultural/religious imperative to not desecrate the body.

Strangely, It's OK to expect the entitlement of some else donating their loved one's organs to save your loved ones.

But contribute? Hell no!

NO

This illustrates the difference between people raised in a good and caring society and people raised by their society to be greedy, grasping and ungrateful.

I think immigrants from Mexico are great, but not if they want to come illegally and remain "Mexican" in their hearts.

Be American, through and through or get the hell out and stay out.

"I think immigrants from Mexico are great, but not if they want to come illegally and remain "Mexican" in their hearts."

"Be American, through and through or get the hell out and stay out."

These I agree with, the rest I find hateful, not informed.

Not that I've been all around the world, but so far, everywhere I go, people are the same; some are cool, some are jerks.
