[history]
MARTIN Sheen's politicking against the war on terrorism may have cost him a lucrative endorsement contract.
Sheen and his son Charlie starred in a spot for Visa's Check Card which was cited as one of the top TV commercials of 2002. But it was abruptly canceled last week.

Cross one off the list. MCI's Danny Glover next please.

Now if we can just get Lipton Tea to drop the Dixie Chicks. It's a more egregious situation than that of Sheen----we expect no less of Hollyweirdos than snooty disdain of their nation and its people. But for people to make their living off of country music fans and then to go to other countries and insult America is beyond the pale. West Wing fans know what they're getting and evidently support being spoon-fed liberal politics in contrived dramatic situations, so Sheen isn't going to turn them off to Visa. But Dixie Chicks fans, I argue, are roughly the same set as Toby Keith and Darryl Worley and Charley Daniels fans---patriots all. I'll bet the overwhelming majority of both Dixie Chick fans and of Lipton Tea drinkers oppose American entertainers getting in front of Europeans and trashing America.

I'm about ready to call MCI and switch over, on the conditions that they publicly fire Danny Glover

I am certainly ready to boycott products as well as movies. I saw a new ad last night for MCI with a famous black actor (his name escapes me right now, he played opposite Oprah in The Color Purple). Anyone who has MCI can protest right now (or at least as soon as I think of his name ) LOL

I thought the Martin/Charlie Sheen commercial was funny, at least the first few times I saw it.
Still didn't get me to ditch my MasterCard for Visa...advertisers really count too much on star power to sell their products.

All the celebrity shows have been running stories on actors afraid to say anything for fear of being blacklisted. Good, tell them to shut up and ACT. I don't go to my doctor for discussions on reloading and shooting; why would I listen to an actor for political advice ?
Besides, from a marketing standpoint most actors are like the children rule of old ... "better seen, not heard"

A rep for ad agency BBDO referred all calls to Visa, which denied that the commerical's termination had anything to do with Sheen's politics. Ahhh, so we can *keep* slamming Visa, then.
"While these celebrities play a role in our spots, they in no way represent the views of Visa."
So, would Visa hire Charles Manson?

I HATE watching those MCI ads with Glover in them. I'll never eat another yellow or green jelly bean! (well...) And I won't watch his TV movies either. Gotta make little inroads somewhere.

Was it Danny Glover?

Can't see much difference there, my friend.

Isn't is amazing that a communist is still be used to promote Visa but an American is removed because of his anti American stance. I didn't catch that irony this morning, but yes, amazing.

I wrote VISA to let them know I appreciated dropping the hollywood numbnut:
Not seeing the "acting" president on YOUR commercials will allow me to be more tolerable when I pull my VISA card out to use it. I thank you for allowing that despicable man's (martin sheen) commercials to run out. I will not hesitate to never use my VISA card again if I see his traitorous mug associated to my money again!
Thanks again for not allowing this enemy enabling person to endorse your product.
To: kattracks
Great job, FReepers, Let's Roll! Blacklist, you say? Why, that's a splendid idea!
(And don't ever get defensive about it!)
