[history]
WASHINGTON - President Bush said, "Let's go" as he ordered a surprise first strike against Saddam Hussein at 7:12 p.m. Wednesday - just three minutes before the deadline to decide, the White House revealed last night. There were no plans for action that night when Bush signed off on the overall war plan at 8 a.m., speaking to nine commanders linked by video. He asked them one by one if they were comfortable with the strategy and had all they needed to win.

The title should be... "Discussing the options, the costs, the reward of war for three hours, ended with a conclusion that we must enter into this war. And, ironically, this was decided with three minutes to spare."

CIA chief Tenet was seen with a cigar in his mouth at the White House. I bet that image steams Hillary's broccoli.

This image of Bush and his decisive leadership really really rags the libs. Furthermore, the last things they want to see are photos of him with his braintrust/war cabinet during moments of decision.
Last night on Special Report, Fred Barnes was very complimentary about Bush's ability to be flexible and to call the shots on a dime. WEllllll . . . Maura almost had a conniption fit. She is always precurser of the Democrat response that usually takes place the next day.
Anyhow, she said Bush didn't make the decision by himself, but that the Pentagon must have had SOMETHING to say about it. Ya know, she just doesn't get it and neither do the other millions of misguided liberals. They simply cannot see a leader if he struck them across the face with a 2X4.

I agree with you completely. The liberals are so disappointed. Bush cannot be a decisive commander in chief, because he will soon be victorious. And, it must be the CIA or the Pentagon that are calling the shots, not Bush... because then, that would mean, he is capable of thoughtful planning.

Agreed 2,000% Not only FU LBJ but MOTHER FU LBJ and let's not forget Robert Strange "Traitor" McNamara, who if justice were truly served would be hung in chains in the middle of Lafayette Square across from the White house and left to rot there.

I was talking to one of my Liberal friends this morning, and explained that whether or not you favor the war largely comes down to whether or not you trust GWB. If you trust GWB, and have confidence that he will make the right decisions, you support the war 100%. If you distrust GWB, think he stole the Florida election, and have little confidence in his intellectual abilities, the thought of him in control of the war must be horrifying. I fall into the first camp, and he falls into the latter. Eventually we agreed to disagree about GWB, because there is nothing either of us can say to convince the other.
I consoled him with the knowledge that GWB could ask GHWB about the utility of having a 91% approval rating a year and a half out from an election. That perked him up a bit. He's having a pretty lousy day...

Do you think GW will be re-elected? Or, is war( even though decisive, victorious, and resulting in very few casualties) too horrifying for most immature Americans, and we will want to return to the "good-ole" days of Clinton, with Hillary at the helm?

I think that anything can happen in a year-and-a-half, and a 91% approval rating this far out is worth about as much as a half eaten donut.
That said, GWB has had a very deft hand on the political tiller ever since he burst on the national scene. I think that this will continue, and he will be re-elected with big gains in both the House and Senate. In my fondest dreams, I look forward to 60 seats in the Senate, allowing the Pubbies to invoke cloture whenever then darn well please!

I like your optimism, and join you in hoping that Bush wins a landslide, takes control of the legislature, and fills up the courts, including replacement in the U.S. Supreme Court.
