That balloon should be shot down before it get's lift off. We need these strict rules at this time due to war but after the war is over the freedom shall ring. Our forefathers would turn over in their graves if they knew otherwise and the citizenry would be stupid to put up with it in times of peace.

"Congressional Republicans are working to make permanent the sweeping antiterrorism powers given to federal law enforcement agents after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. "
Please note this. Contact your Republican congresscritters about this.

Bear in mind that while the New York Times laid on this on Hatch, the Utah Senator made no comment on the record. Gee, I seem to recall the NY Times recently neglecting to include a couple of key words to a statement by General William Wallace to create a story that wasn't there. Let's wait on this one, folks, until we see it from a more credible source than the NY Times, such as Debka...

Many, many people held their noses and swallowed the Patriot Act only because the "sunset" provision was in it. I am one of those many.
This MUST NOT STAND!

So much for the Constitution?? Not!! If, God forbid, this happens it will definitely be time to restaff all of Washington D.C. regardless of the current condition of the country.

Saddam might be the vilest person on earth, but
go into your room, pull down the shades, take out a pad.
Make two columns.
In one column list everything that Saddam did to *you*,
add everything the nutty Talebin did to *you*,
add in everything that the fruitcake Kim Il did to *You*
Then sum up that column.
Go to the other column.
List there every way that some other government has screwed you around. It might take you some time, hopefully you'll finish by April 15th.
Then sum up that column.
Which column is bigger?
Sssh. Don't tell me, don't even say it out loud.
Just tell these "Conservative" Republicans "Please, sir, can I have some more"?

I thought that the PATRIOT act was both legal and moral?? So, if it is, why the discussion? It should be permanent, shouldn't it? /sarcasm

Who didn't see this coming?

The times said the move to repeal the sunset clause was crafted by one Senator Orrin G. Hatch, Republican of Utah Of course. He was pushing for a similar law when Klinton was president too. He and Reno led the way. Then it was for the war on drugs.

Didn't Nixon try to drastically change the domestic spying powers of the CIA, NSA etc, and when Hoover shot that balloon down, he just did it clandestinely anyway? He was just ahead of the times.
