RACIST REMARKS BY CHRIS MATTHEWS

Posted on 04/28/2003 9:46:58 AM PDT by 7thson

On Sunday's, I usually record Fox News Sunday and then the NBC stuff starting @ 1030 till 1230 - Meet The Press, and so on. At 1000, the Chris Matthews program comes on and I sometimes watch this but more often than not, it is just background noise to me. My wife was watching and said that near the end of the program, Matthew's showed the clip where Jane Goodall does her monkey call at the State Department. Matthew's then finishes off by saying that she was trying to send a message to Colin Powell. Did anyone catch this? If a Republican said this, how soon would his head be called for?

I didnt see Matthews but I did hear Goodalls monkey call on Rush. It was pretty bizarre for her to do that anyway. But if Matthews said that about Powell then he should be called on it. Lib media will probably cover him.

If so, someone needs to make it an issue. The media do not police their own.

Heard something about O'reilly saying something about people stealing his hubcaps in the parking lot.

What some "conservatives" are doing to Powell right now is a lot worse than anything Mathews could've said or done.

Is it a surprise that basically no one is talking about Rick Santorum and his 'gay comments'?

I didn't hear that much on the Sunday talk shows.

This is the problem. They are all afraid to take each other on for fear that it will come back and bite them.

Talking heads are not politicians. They can be as stupid as they like as long as their employers don't care.

Saw it, heard it. However, Matthews did not say anything derogatory about Powell. Hell, he loves Powell.

The threaded calls of racism are getting more and more remote. Unless you can carefully follow the thread, it's almost impossible to detect the 'racism'.

The definition of the word 'racism' has become so convoluted that it is now possible to 'convict' anyone of racism for just about any sentence you can think of.

It is as if certain people are 'fishing' for racism where it doesn't exist, looking high and low to find something they can take as an insult. That's a mighty huge chip to carry on one's shoulder.

LOL! That's pretty dang funny. Thanks, that made my day....

In any event, this is just more of the two party, tit for tat, soap opera, while they all go to the same parties and bump bellies.....

I'm reminded of Howard Cosell's ad lib on Monday Night Football years ago, commenting on an open-field run by a Black player on the Washington Redskins: "Look at that little monkey run!..." Earned him a lot of scorn. Matthews' comment put Colin Powell in the same category. But he's been given a pass.

If Colin Powell were white, would Matthews have done anything different? Perhaps he just meant that as a quip that Goodall was sending a message to the Secretary of State, not necessarily to a black man.

Mind you, I'm no Matthews fan...

Chris is a liberal, ergo his remarks were not racist. If he were a conservative, those same remarks would, of course, be despicable racism of worst sort...
