NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Washing his horses at a car wash didn't seem like a bad idea to Jess Yager until it turned out to be illegal.
Yager took his four horses to the car wash Monday afternoon to clean them, saying it's hard to clip and trim horses when their hair is caked with mud.
But animal control officer John Pettit was ready to ticket Yager. Pettit told Yager it was against the law to wash his animals at the car wash and let him off with a warning.
Yager said that's news to him since he's been doing it for years. He said the horses love it and prefer the hot water of the car wash over the cold hose at home.
Yager took his animals home, after only two got the soapy treatment.

OK - if the high pressure wand causes injury, I can see the point of this, but if not - what is the harm? The horses probably leave less mess than the average 4X4 owner knocking the mud off from a recent muddin' trip....

All those rollers and brushes and scrubbers would be horrible for the poor horseies! Not to mention that blast of air at the end! I wonder if he got the hot wax!

Gee, I'd sure like to see chapter & verse for that illegality. Some town council has way too much time on their hands.

Yager should have asked Pettit to show him that law on the books. I'd bet it doesn't exist.

We have a livestock wash room in our barn. I shower there in the summer for a brisk punch of a shower.
This is an illustration of taxes funding state payrolls which create positions like horsey car wash inspector.

On a related note, I've never had any problem riding my horse through the Dairy Queen Drive Thru.

There is a LAW about this? - I actually have seen a 4H Kid scrubbing a steer at a car wash, on his way to the fair. Looked like a pretty dang good idea to me! Worked great!

That's not horse $hit. That's cow $hit. How can you comment on things like horses and carwashes when you don't know $hit.

I imagine these are the self-wash stalls.
My stable has a nice wash rack, too. I can cross tie my horse, and control the sprayer, but I end up soaked.
And my horse can't wait to roll in the dirt.

I know a girl that got a DUI for riding her horse while intoxicated. She had her vehicle license suspended for six months. She got nabbed by getting flippy with the McDonalds drive thru window.
