Hong Kong (dpa) - A restaurant in western China has been ordered to shut down after being caught using old underpants as dish cloths, a news report said Monday.

Health inspectors swooped on the restaurant in Chengdu, Sichuan province, after getting a tip-off about the old underpants being used in the kitchens.

The inspectors ordered the restaurant to shut down temporarily while an investigation into its hygiene standards is conducted, the South China Morning Post reported.

In one restaurant in Xian, the kitchen people (being PC here) carried a huge tub of wet, just washed, silverware into the dining room, sat at a table where tourists had sat, and proceeded to dry the untensils with the hanging ends of the tablecloth. Granted that the hanging ends were clean, but I had just passed the kitchen and saw the dishwater!

BTW - I never got sick.

Not to dry dishes, but they are good dustrags...after they have been washed of course, LOL! I also keep a soft cloth baby diaper in the kitchen to clean my eyeglasses, it cleans them without scratching the lens.

Saw a TV documentary made by Ralph Nader, our great American consumer advocate who in 1969 went to inspect a sausage factory somewhere here in the US, and you can clearly see what Nader claimed in his report, that besides using the worst quality meat (all the fatty bits and left-overs from the meat plant) the sausage factory sweep the factory floors to collect these sweepings to put into the sauga---nothing was wasted.

And the most nauseating and disgusting part was that there were a lot of animal faeces clearly seen on the floor and these were all included
