WHO'S HOT & WHO'S NOT!

WHO'S HOT....

1. HILLARY CLINTON

As far as the media glitterati are concerned, Hillary Clinton and her new autobiography, Living History, are hot, hot, hot.

Interviewing the senatorial ice queen, on what appeared to be an ABC TV infomercial for Hillary's new book, a sycophantic Barbara Walters displayed all the professionalism of a ten-week-old cocker-spaniel puppy, as she panted and fawned over America's most notorious Democratic presidental candidate-in-waiting.

As the syrupy and cosmetically-altered Walters -- fresh from her daily embalming at Elizabeth Arden's -- hurled one exaggerated compliment after another in the direction of the former First Pilferer, one couldn't have been blamed for expecting Senator Clinton to rise from her seat, approvingly pat Babs on the top of her surgically-enhanced noggin, and then feed her a Milkbone treat.

In the biggest TV suck-up since Regis Philibin interviewed Elton John, Barbara Wawa all but elevated Hillary Clinton to sainthood, praising her for a variety of virtues which America's most famous serial-adultery victim wouldn't recognize if she tripped over them, including candidness, sincerity and unbridled maternal devotion.

According to Walters, Living History is a "wife's deeply personal account of being betrayed in front of the entire world." Yes, and as Ann Coulter has noted, "it was so deeply personal, it took several ghostwriters to get it right."

Of course, despite the public's supposed euphoric rush to pick up copies of this magnificent opus of spinmeistering, a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll -- investigating public reaction to Hillary Clinton's new memoir -- found that a majority of Americans don't believe Mrs. Clinton's account. According to the Gallup people, only 35% of the American people believe Hillary Clinton is telling the truth; and 56% say she is not telling the truth.

And speaking of not telling the truth, the whole PR campaign for Lying History, er, Living History appears to be one lie heaped upon another -- just like the poltical careers of Hillary Clinton and her prevaricating, philandering partner in crime, Bill Clinton. For example, several reports now indicate that the first printing of Living History will be two hundred thousand, not one million, copies. And it now appears that the notorious "leaked" AP excerpt from Hilliary's "tell-all" -- which received so much advance publicity -- came directly from Hilliary and her publisher (should we be surprised?).

And what about all those eager literary fans who lined up all night to get a fresh-minted copy of Hilliary's opus fictional account of her life with Bill. Well, Ann Coulter has an interesting perspective on that much-hyped phenomenon too:
First in line for Hillary's book at Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Center on Sunday night was Charles Greinsky, who told the New York Daily News he rushed out at midnight to get one of the first books because he supported Hillary's health-care plan. A few years ago, the Associated Press identified Greinsky more fully. It turns out he is "a longtime Clinton campaigner" from Staten Island, who has been the Clintons' guest several times both at the White House and at their home in Chappaqua, N.Y.
Could Mr. Greinsky have been a Clinton plant, conveniently located at the front of the Barnes & Noble lineup for the sake of the gullible press? Heavens to Hillary, what a mean and hurtful accusation. Hilliary resorting to such a transparent P.R. fraud? Never! It must have been another nefarious 'dirty trick' perpetuated by that vast right-wing conspiracy that previously tricked Bill into committing adultery, using cigars for, er, unconventional prurient purposes, and pardoning a bevy of hard-core criminals when he left office.

The good news, we suppose, is that this latest Clinton PR-fest has revealed that the majority of the American people still are cynical and suspicious when it comes to the words and actions of both Clintons. The bad news is that neither Bill or Hillary appear ready to grant the wish of 90% of the American public -- for the Clintons to just go away.

After I read this (and wiped the tears of laughter from my eyes), I remembered a thread about Hillary's book sales in Bakersfield.

Local Sales Of Hillary Clinton Book Off To Slow Start

Memoir Reveals Account On President Clinton's Affair

POSTED: 7:02 p.m. PDT June 9, 2003 UPDATED: 7:03 p.m. PDT June 9, 2003

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's new autobiography went on sale Monday morning.

In New York, people lined up for as long as 14 hours waiting to have Clinton autograph their copy of her new book. But in Bakersfield, the sounds of ringing cash registers was not as loud.

Sales started out slowly at Russo's Bookstore.

Valerie Lewis of Russo's Books said, "We were anticipating more of a rush but our community takes a little time to get going and then it really hits."

A few people got their copy of "Living History" to read up on Clinton's eight-year stint as America's First Lady.

Customer Bernice Bonillas said, "I'm a Hilary Clinton fan. There's been so much hype on the news I just wanted to make sure -- be sure I get one."

"This guy has clearly found something he loves to do, and few people have done that," Thompson said. "You have to admire that. How many people have found something that they love to wake up at 2:30 in the morning to do?"

We don't have to worry that Greg Packer will be losing his virginity anytime soon. He just doesn't have time....

This is a wonderfully hillarious thread! I hereby recommend we all send letters to the New York Times signed by Greg Packer and any media interviews we give our names as Greg Packer.

This is becoming bigger than the Tourist Guy.

They know him, and they know his opinions - before the interview - so he's not the random "man on the street", and they know it.

Maybe he's not a "plant", but he's as close as you can get.

Coulter seems to be trying to create a scandal where there isn't one

At best, the NYT has been had by a clown, an attention-seeker, a "professional man on the street," not once, but literally dozens of times. Perhaps not a scandal, but merely another reason not to take the paper seriously.

At worst, they've intentionally quoted a familiar personality and yet labeled him a random "man on the street". For a newspaper pretending to be serious ... scandalous.
