the Moody Blues, who practically invented symphonic rock and who pulled off a wonderful theme album, Days of Future Passed, long before Sgt. Pepper--and sans George Martin--has no credibility in my book.

have you ever considered actually researching those pesky little things called facts?
according to the official moody blues website, Days of Future Passed was released 11/11/67.
Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band released 6/1/67 in the UK, 6/2/67 in the US.
Now I'm no math wiz, but that seems to indicate that SPLHCB was out nearly half a year prior to DOFP.
For the record (no pun intended), Magical Mystery Tour was released 11/27/67.
You can look it up (I did).

Yes, but Pet Sounds was released in '66, which is all that really matters, right?
